  I had a terrible experience with Purl Apartments and would not recommend living here. Purl accidentally overcharged me $3,500 in rent. When I requested a refund, they acknowledged the overcharge but told me their “system does not work that way” and that they couldn’t issue refunds. It took nearly six weeks to get my money back, and I spent countless hours dealing with lawyers and the California Attorney General to resolve an issue that should never have happened in the first place. The walls are also paper-thin. I had to wear AirPods just to block out the constant noise from neighbors, even while trying to sleep. The move-out process was equally frustrating. A member of the maintenance team told me he had worked at Purl for years and had only seen them return security deposits a handful of times. In my case, Purl acknowledged that I had caused zero damage to the apartment, yet they kept my entire security deposit and charged me an additional $400 because they wanted to repaint the unit, despite there being no wall damage caused by me. Between the $3,500 overcharge, the months of frustration dealing with management, the noise issues, and the disputed move-out charges, living at Purl was an extremely negative experience. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

  Ok guys I'm a current resident. I have to say many of these reviews scared me at first when I was looking into moving here with my partner. In short, I've lived here almost 6 months and love the community. There is no place where 100% of things are perfect, but I'd say this place is pretty close. Shoutout to our leasing agent Shanell who helped us move in and has answered every one of our questions and assisted around the property, while we see she is always running around very busy. Ivan in the leasing office has also been very friendly. Amazing community, events, yes rent is high but guess what - this place is located in San Diego lol, and for the lifestyle, location, and amenities you get, I'm happy with it. Important for me was NO BUGS - no roaches as in other places I know by friends there are in SD.. I had a few small ants show up, and the Purl sent pest control and they vanished - very minimal. It's a CLEAN, nice smelling community. Various pools, gyms, places to walk, park. If I'd have any critique, I'd ask them to PLEASE not charge so much at once for guest parking... they said it's a new system to be rolled out, I hope it won't be. The isolation between the walls is pretty amazing as well, rarely* do we hear anything from the outside. We had a few minors fixes and maintenance came out VERY quick and helped us out EVERY time - huge shoutout to each of them we've met. Otherwise, we are very happy we chose the Purl and plan to be here for a while!

  I couldn’t be happier with my experience at Purl Apartments. Due to some personal circumstances, it took me over a month to finally secure my unit, but the staff was incredible throughout the entire process. At every roadblock along the way, they were patient, responsive, and genuinely willing to help me find a solution. From getting everything finalized to making sure my move-in went smoothly, the entire team went above and beyond. I’m especially grateful to the staff and property management for making what could have been a stressful process feel manageable and welcoming. After just my first few days here, I already feel at home and genuinely proud to be part of this community. I couldn’t be more grateful for everyone who helped make it happen. Fantastic experience from start to finish, and I’m excited to call Purl home!

  I lived on the sister property and recently toured the community. They have two buildings: one resort-style, more expensive, and one for low-income. I enjoyed the clubhouse for the Super Bowl with other residents in the area; my daughter loved it as well. I utilized the clubhouse amenity to complete my online degree assignments; Purl has an open garage setting, I prefer a personal garage, and I also networked and met amazing people. I wish they had a gym like the other sister properties. Overall, amazing location and amenities, just overpriced, and the leasing staff isn't as nice....

  This place is absolutely amazing! The location is perfect, the neighborhood is beautiful, and The Purl offers the perfect combination of luxury, comfort, and privacy. Shannell in Leasing is truly exceptional. Of all the leasing agents I’ve worked with throughout my rental history, she has been one of the absolute best. She is incredibly professional, kind, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely a pleasure to work with. She made the entire leasing experience feel easy and welcoming. Michaelann in Resident Services has also been wonderful throughout my time living at The Purl. She is attentive, patient, professional, kind, always willing to help and her excellent customer service have made my experience here even better. Both Shannell and Michaelann are a huge part of what makes The Purl such a great place to call home. I highly recommend The Purl to anyone looking for a beautiful, luxurious community with an amazing team!
