**If you like your sleep, don’t live here.**
I’ve put off writing this review because I genuinely hoped things would get better. I really wanted to like living here, and there are definitely some positives: the location is great, and the gym and amenities are really nice. Unfortunately, the negatives have outweighed those things for us.
The biggest issue is **the noise**. For a brand-new building, I’m shocked by how much sound travels between units. We can hear our upstairs neighbors’ television through the walls, and not because they’re playing it excessively loud, but because the sound and bass seem to vibrate through the building. At least ten times over the past two months, their TV has been left on all night, and it has kept us from sleeping.
We moved here from another nice apartment community in San Diego and never had issues with noise there, so I know this is not just something that comes with apartment living. The difference in sound insulation between the two buildings is pretty significant.
There is also significant outside noise. The light rail seems to stop around 10 p.m., but occasionally a large freight train comes through around 12:30–1 a.m. with an extremely loud horn. The last couple of nights, we’ve also had a car alarm repeatedly going off in the parking lot. Obviously not everything outside the building is within management’s control, but combined with how poorly sound seems to be insulated inside the building, getting consistent sleep has been incredibly frustrating.
The apartment also looks much nicer at first glance than it does upon closer inspection. We were the first people to live in our unit, yet there were already dings and scuffs on the counters and cabinets, a scratch in the flooring, and white paint drips all over the floors. I spent a lot of time trying to clean them, but the floors still look dirty because of the dried paint. When we told the leasing office about the paint, scratches, and other issues, they didn’t seem surprised or particularly concerned.
There have also been several issues that make it feel like the units were rushed to be ready for move-in. Our washer and dryer weren’t set up correctly, and the dryer was making an absolutely ungodly sound. We told management, but no one ever came to look at it, so we eventually fixed the issue ourselves. Our garbage disposal also didn’t work when we moved in, and we ended up fixing that ourselves too. These aren’t huge problems individually, but for a brand-new apartment that was allegedly inspected before our arrival, it’s frustrating to move in and immediately have to troubleshoot and fix things yourself.
We also pay extra for a two-car garage, and when we moved in, that was a mess too, with white construction dust everywhere.
I wanted to love living here. It’s a beautiful-looking building in a great location, but for what we’re paying, I expected much better construction quality, attention to detail, sound insulation, and responsiveness from management. Unfortunately, between the constant noise and the number of issues we’ve had with a brand-new unit, we will likely be moving out as soon as we can.
