This has been, by far, the worst apartment management experience I’ve ever had.
When we moved out, we were told by SOFI that we owed around $300 for cleaning and repainting, etc. We had no problem paying it and contacted the leasing office asking how to make the payment. Instead of letting us pay directly, we were told to wait for some "statement" to arrive by mail, which could take a few weeks. We waited for the mail and even checked in multiple times during the process.
Then, out of nowhere, our account was sent to collections for non-payment.
To make matters worse, the amount sent to the collection agency didn’t even reflect our security deposit correctly, making the balance much higher than it should have been. When we contacted the SOFI leasing office, they acted like they didn’t know what happened. We asked them to simply send an updated statement to the collection agency, but what should have taken one email turned into nearly two weeks of constant follow-up calls. During that time, they repeatedly said they’d send it “tomorrow” or “next week,” sent emails to the wrong address, and even forgot to attach the statement.
After finally receiving the correct statement, we paid the collection agency (IQ Data). They then charged us twice for the exact same amount. We spent weeks trying to get our refund, calling multiple times, only to be told there was an “error” and to wait another week. This went on for over a month.
Now THREE MONTHS AFTER WE MOVED OUT, we got hit up from DepositCloud saying we have a refund waiting for us. All I can do is laugh. I am so confused to why we were charged $300, and weeks after getting a refund of that $300?????
This entire move-out process has been a nightmare filled with poor communication, repeated administrative mistakes, unnecessary stress, and countless hours spent chasing people just to fix problems that should never have happened in the first place.
Rats, mould, cockroaches!!! Oh my!!!
I absolutely Would NOT recommend living here at all.
I'm going to list a variety of experiences our friends and neighbors endured here, to give you readers the full picture.
If you are disabled and need access to an elevator, don't live here. Elevators are often down for weeks at a time. Need a mobility device in your parking space? Be prepared for potential harassment by the leasing office to keep your parking space clear... all while the complex has various vending machine parts in parking spaces of tenants... classic Sofi hypocrisy.
If you were looking forward to the amenities, be prepared for disappointment:
Our friends were so excited for the tennis court, and chose this complex because of it... they ripped it out and replaced it with a playground and gym.
If you're excited for the pool, they will often resurface the pools during the hottest summer months.
Are you a fan of air conditioning? Too bad. Either it doesn't work at all, works rarely, or if you're really unlucky the coolant will pour through the ceiling and ruin your belongings, and worsen the already existing mould issue.
Enjoy showering? Countless times the water has been shut off with no notice from the complex.
They tried evicting our favorite neighbor, who is a longtime tenant, and absolute community pillar for "peeing outside." The dates they listed, our neighbors weren't even in Orange County.
Sinks leak in the kitchen, water damage. No solution offered. There's mould everywhere, inside and outside the units. Check above the trash areas, AC vents, windows, patio doors, etc and you'll see what I mean.
Rats AND Cockroaches IN the units!! MULTIPLE of our friends in this complex have left because of the insane vermin's situation. They were seeing, hearing, and smelling(the pee of) rats throughout their apartments. The rats travel between units as well. The complex was either unwilling or unable to remedy this. Our friends were put in a position where they were forced to buy their own traps to try to solve the infestation. They were not offered to move into a different unit by the complex. They have since, very understandably, chosen to leave this vermin-infested nightmare behind.
The vibe has shifted dramatically as well… it doesn’t feel like home, it feels like living under surveillance. Management has been micromanaging specific people, and unfairly and unevenly enforcing “rules” based off who is in or out of favor. If the staff don’t like you, you will be tormented by constant calls about everything you’re doing “wrong” for months… despite not changing your lifestyle or routine at all. It’s so frustrating, there’s no way to relax. The tone they use is unnecessarily rude.
It's comparable to a fever-dream living here. It's sort of what I imagine hell would be like.
If you value your health, sanity, and peace of mind, RUN don't walk from Sofi Irvine.

Scott Welker and Mimi were extremely helpful with the move in process and implementing the execution of the maintenance team follow up.

The people in the front office don't listen to understand—they listen only to respond. Those are two very different things, and it shows.
Twice—yes, twice—there has been human feces left in the stairwell for days. Not hours. Days. That should never happen in any apartment community, if you can even call this one a community.
When I first toured the property, I liked it because of its proximity to my work. Unfortunately, that was about the only positive. The front office has consistently acted as though the residents are an inconvenience rather than the reason the property exists. Looking through the other reviews, I'm clearly not the only person who noticed—or smelled—the human waste left sitting in the stairwell.
And to top it all off, during one interaction, a gentleman in the front office actually farted in front of my wife and chuckled about it. I honestly couldn't believe what I had just witnessed.
At this point, I find myself asking: What is going on here? More importantly... why do I live here?
Currently a resident at Sofi Irvine. Just received help from Jerry G. to replace my dishwasher and it went very smooth! Jerry did a really good job and was very professional the entire time he was here replacing the dishwasher. Having a maintenance crew with workers as good as Jerry makes me happy to be living here at Sofi Irvine.
