  I was extremely disappointed with my interaction with Derek Freel, the Sales Manager at this location. I reached out with what I thought was a straightforward business opportunity: I’m an investor looking to purchase additional homes, and I asked whether they would be willing to look at or match competitive pricing I had received from another home center. Rather than trying to understand the opportunity, earn the business, or even have a conversation about pricing and what might be possible, Derek’s response was: “Yessir. I won’t sell a new home that I don’t deliver and set. I won’t price a new one without it.” That response told me everything I needed to know. I wasn’t asking for special treatment. I was giving this location an opportunity to compete for my business and potentially establish an ongoing relationship with an investor who expects to purchase more than one home. A good Sales Manager should at least be willing to understand the customer’s needs, discuss the numbers, and determine whether there is a way to earn the business. Instead, the response came across as dismissive and completely uninterested in developing a new customer relationship. There was no attempt to ask about the competing quote, the number of homes I anticipate purchasing, my future investment plans, or whether there might be another way to structure the transaction. As an investor, I pay attention to more than just the price. I pay attention to how a company treats someone before they have their money, because that usually tells you a lot about what the relationship will look like afterward. Unfortunately, this interaction gave me no confidence that this location is interested in building long-term investor relationships or earning repeat business. I’ll take my current purchase—and, more importantly, my future purchases—to a home center that sees the value in developing a customer relationship rather than shutting down the conversation before it even starts.

  I can’t say enough good things about Tina the Service Coordinator at Clayton Homes!!! I bought my mobile home there almost 3 years ago (shout out to the best salesman Derrick Freel) and anytime I have had an issue or needed advice on anything she has been my advocate to make sure it is taken care of properly. She will literally fight for her customers to make sure you are taken care of fairly and professionally. I am so glad I bought from Clayton Homes and have her in my corner. Thank you Tina!!! You are awesome!!!!
