We initially looked at Clayton Homes and received a warm welcome from Tim Allen. He was very helpful showing us models and answering all our questions. We decided to make a few more inquiries of local dealers but realized the quality of service just didn’t compare. Clayton Homes offered site inspection free of charge whereas the other dealers wanted to charge us before we even knew if our site would accept a home. It wasn’t too difficult to decide from whom to purchase our home. They made our closing streamlined ending in a celebration with the staff members. Nice touch Clayton Homes! Looking forward to many memorable years in our first new home.
Thank you for a great experience!

We purchased our home in early 2022 and have had multiple issues since then. I've used the home warranty company several times and each time they say wow, you have a lot of claims! Yes we do, because the quality is not in our house, the "southern farmhouse."
We were interested in another model but were told that it had just sold and that they found the perfect one for us. It was probably not wise on our part but we purchased the southern farmhouse sight unseen. We've had multiple problems too numerous to list.
The bad part is the home warranty will only cover one claim for each part that is damaged and unfortunately damage has reoccurred to the same types of things like the plumbing and siding.
The wind ripped the siding off of the house a few weeks ago and we had to snap it back together.
Today it was a plumbing disaster with a leaking pipe in the laundry room behind the wall. Now part of the wall is cut out and there is water damage to the floor and wall in both the laundry room and in the bedroom.
Prior plumbing issues include the kitchen sink faucet coming apart and shooting water all over the kitchen, and the guest bath spigot shooting off when we turned on the water and it shot across and hit the other side of the tub with a lot of force. Thankfully no one was showering at that time. One of the workers that helped with the install had supposedly fixed the main bathroom shower drain because it was not draining. He told us to run it for 5 minutes and that flooded the master bath and part of the bedroom. We ended up getting that fixed. There have been so many plumbing issues that there are areas where the flooring is soft. I hate to even think about possible mold build up.
There's a lot more but I just can't think of it at the moment. We've spent so much money fixing this manufactured home that is only 4 years old. It's disheartening to think that we still have years to pay on it.
Photos below of where the wall had to be cut out in the laundry room after the wet panel was removed, and the siding that's reattached but still warped.
Also when you turn the lights on and off other lights that are off will flash which signals some type of poor electrical wiring.
The kitchen cabinets are crooked and some of the drawers don't slide in and out smoothly. One of the main drawers that we keep things in is coming apart at the bottom.
I wish there was some recourse but at this point I suppose there's nothing we can do.
The people at Clayton were very nice but this is a very poor quality home. It was built by Southern energy homes so if you're looking into a manufactured house I would not recommend that type of home.
Clayton did reply to my review and I'd like to say it isn't a "feeling" - it's factual information about the ongoing repairs needed for a home that is less than 5 years old. Home First Warranty has been contacted multiple times, however, as mentioned they only cover one claim per issue and don't pay if it's less than the $500 deductible. Unfortunate. They are correct though that items were repaired after the walk through process.
