When I first moved in, my initial impression of this apartment was actually quite positive. All the furniture looked nice, the unit was very clean, and the overall environment felt tidy and comfortable. Although the air conditioning had some issues at the beginning, the maintenance staff responded quickly and fixed the problem right away, so I was initially satisfied with their service.
However, less than a month after moving in, the real problems started to appear. The soundproofing here is extremely poor. Even during quiet hours, I can clearly hear the upstairs resident walking, moving things around, and making various noises. The resident upstairs also owns a medium sized dog, and every time the dog runs inside the unit, the noise is so loud that it often wakes me up in the middle of the night. In addition, I sometimes hear heavy, thudding noises coming from directly above my bedroom, like something very heavy was dropped on the floor. These sudden, jarring sounds sometimes occur just as I’m about to fall asleep, startling me awake and causing significant stress over time.
Because of my studies and work, I have lived in many different apartments in various cities, and the rent here is certainly not cheap. Yet among all the apartments I’ve lived in, this one has the worst soundproofing. It does not match the price at all and falls far below the living quality it claims to offer.
Since the noise seriously affects my sleep, I have contacted the leasing office multiple times. I provided many recordings that clearly captured the noise and demonstrated how disruptive it was. Despite this, the property manager insisted that complaints only count if the courtesy officer personally comes to my unit and hears the noise himself. The problem is that these noises are unpredictable, sometimes they last only a few seconds, sometimes a minute or two, and occasionally they continue for more than ten minutes. By the time the officer receives my report and arrives at my apartment, the noise has usually stopped. This makes their verification requirement nearly impossible to fulfill and places an unreasonable burden on residents who are already suffering from the disturbance.
The upstairs neighbor’s behavior is also disappointing. I have asked both the front desk and the courtesy officer to let him know about the disturbance multiple times, yet nothing has improved. At this point, I often have to wait until the person upstairs falls asleep before I can go to sleep myself; otherwise, I have a fairly high chance of being woken up by sudden and bizarre noises.
What is even more frustrating is the way the management repeatedly avoids responsibility. I have already provided clear recordings, but the leasing office insists on relying on an unrealistic verification process, as if the problem does not exist unless the courtesy officer happens to hear it in person. I even offered to pay out of pocket to switch to another unit, but I was told that I must live in my current unit for six months before being allowed to transfer, and that any unit change must be to a different floorplan. As someone living alone in a 1b1b, being told that I would have to transfer to a 2b2b makes absolutely no sense and feels more like an intentional barrier than a solution.
I am fortunate that my parents are willing to help me cover the cost of moving in the future, so I will definitely move out once my lease ends. If you value sleep quality or expect to live in a quiet apartment with responsible management, I do not recommend this place. The persistent noise issues, the management’s refusal to take responsibility, and the ineffective complaint process have all left me extremely disappointed in how this property is run.
Attached to this review is a recording of the noise that occurred shortly before 2 a.m. coming from upstairs. Put on your headphones, crank the volume all the way up and that's about as loud as the noise I hear at night.
