Review for Clayton Homes – Maybank, TX
My experience with Clayton Homes in Maybank was very mixed.
The financing process went very smoothly, and that part was a great experience. Once we moved into choosing a home, however, things became frustrating. The sales representative was very pushy and repeatedly tried to convince us to choose a house we clearly said we did not want. That was uncomfortable and unnecessary.
After we finally chose our home, completed closing, and moved forward, communication and organization became a major issue. During the first pad inspection, we were told crushed concrete was required. On the second inspection, we were told it was not needed. That inconsistency caused confusion and stress.
One positive was that our house arrived a week earlier than expected, which was exciting. Unfortunately, once the home was delivered and set, we were not given keys. This was extremely frustrating. A week later, someone came out to unlock the home to take photos of items that needed fixing—but still no keys were provided. Our brand-new home was unlocked, yet we couldn’t officially live in it.
Then the cleaning lady came out and cleaned the home. Very excited but confused why she came before everything was fixed in the home. She came and cleaned but did a half ass job…. The cabinet still were dirty. The floors were not very clean as in my socks be black after she just mopped both of my bathrooms. Had black stuff in it like she didn’t even try to clean it. The floor still had like black paint looking stuff in the floor when she was supposed to get that all up so very disappointed in this experience too.
We were told that if utilities were hooked up that same week, we could do our “welcome home” the following week. After confirming and reaching out, we were then told it would actually be pushed back another week. That meant our home sat unused for two full weeks.
The following week, I received no updates. I texted for an update on Wednesday and received no response. I had to call the office on Thursday to finally get answers, only to be told our paperwork was messed up due to an incorrect serial number from the factory. Because of this, the welcome home had to be delayed again unless I signed paperwork in person.
I was told if I signed by noon, we could close the next day. I live over an hour away, so that wasn’t realistic. I ended up driving to another Clayton Homes location to sign, waited 10–15 minutes because the Maybank office hadn’t emailed the paperwork, and still—after everything—we were told we could not close until the following Monday.
This was extremely inconvenient because we already had movers scheduled. We ended up moving before the welcome home, which I honestly recommend if you’re in a similar situation.
At the welcome home, we were told all repairs would be handled and that A/C and heat would be working that day. That was not true. The “welcome home” consisted of a 3–4 minute walkthrough, a welcome sign, photos, and rekeying the home. We were allowed to live in the house without A/C or heat. What was supposed to be a few days turned into weeks. Even after repairs were made two weeks later, we still did not have working A/C or heat.
Overall, while the financing process was smooth and the home itself arrived early, the lack of communication, repeated delays, paperwork mistakes, and unmet promises made this a very frustrating experience. Do with this information what you will.
I do want to note that Clay Jones, the Maybank manager, later contacted us directly, took responsibility for the mistakes, apologized, and worked with us to provide a solution to the issues we were experiencing. His communication and effort to make things right were appreciated.
