I lived in Unit 258 and had an extremely negative experience due to unresolved mold issues and poor management, specifically by property manager Lisa Klemas.
I first reported mold on July 22. Management performed an air duct cleaning, but the problem persisted. By September 1, visible mold spores appeared on the ceiling, and I could no longer safely remain in the unit. As a result, I lost all of my furniture and personal belongings, totaling close to $10,000. My renter’s insurance (State Farm) denied my claim, stating that my policy did not cover water- or mold-related damage, leaving me to absorb the full loss.
Management did allow me to transfer to another unit and offered a $500 concession, but they refused to take responsibility for the damaged belongings or provide any meaningful rent adjustment, including for September when I could not live in the apartment.
After reviewing other tenant feedback, I noticed a public review from several months earlier referencing similar mold issues in Unit 144. While I can only speak to my own experience, this raised serious concerns for me about whether this problem may extend beyond a single unit.
Between the mold, refusal to compensate damages, and minimal financial accommodation, this experience demonstrated a clear lack of accountability. I strongly caution anyone considering this property, especially Unit 258, to thoroughly document conditions before and during their tenancy.
I have included photos of visible mold on the ceiling, as well as examples of personal belongings being ruined. My couch, my back board, one of my jackets and one of my pillows just as a couple examples. I have over 200 photos total.

I've been a resident at The Monroe for over 2 years, and through all the changes that come with apartment living, one thing has remained constant: Miss Lisa.
From day one, she's been exceptional. She was the one who showed me the apartments and walked me through signing my lease, and that same warmth and professionalism has never wavered. What sets her apart is the grace she extends to residents—she genuinely cares about the people who live here, not just the units we occupy.
Over the years, she's gone out of her way to check in, to help when things got complicated, and to make The Monroe feel less like a complex and more like a community. That kind of consistency and kindness is rare in property management, and it's the reason I've stayed as long as I have.
If you're considering The Monroe, know that having someone like Miss Lisa on staff makes all the difference. She's the heart of this place, and residents like me are lucky to have her.
Sean is a phenomenal property manager. He gives wonderful tours and cares a lot about the residents.

I do not live here, but my family has for a few years. While visiting we have had great experience with the staff and all the amenities available. We really enjoy our time here.

I moved to Austin with my boyfriend, now fiancé, 3 years ago and we’ve only lived in one building during our stay - The Monroe. We began in a one bedroom apartment and after a year, and determining that we LOVE it here, we moved into a larger 2-bedroom unit…and I’m happy to say we just signed another year here!
Especially after talking with other tenants at our community events, I’ve come to realize the BIG part of what keeps this place feeling so welcoming and homely is the manager, Lisa. The first year we were here she wasn’t a part of the team and the leadership was questionable - you could see cleanliness slipping. She began as an assistant in the office and immediately brought warmth with her presence - and her care reflected in the upkeep! Her large heart for her work made such a difference and she was promoted to manager - WELL DESERVED! The building was new when I moved in and I know things can be hard to upkeep (when she took on managing there was so much beginning to fall apart and she was doing it solo - no full time maintenance employees) but then she whipped things back into shape! Under her leadership this place has come back to life. Where do you see a manager all over the property cleaning, touring, fixing AC units, unclogging drains, etc….here. Where management cares THAT much. Thank you, Lisa!
Location - great. 10 minutes from downtown. 10 minutes from McKinney State Park. Two stoplights away from the 71. 8 minutes to the HEB I go to, 10 minutes from the new HEB, take your pick. Other than the front facing street, we’re surrounded by a strip of woods which allows for privacy & low noise. 8 minutes from the airport, yet you don’t hear the planes - such a bonus when you travel a lot!
Ok, about the amenities - what’s not to love? You can start your day with complimentary coffee in the leasing office (just bring your own mug.) A clean pool with lounge chairs all over, and in, the water. I feel like I’m rich by this pool. The grills (we use once a week at least). The electric bonfire to cozy up with a nice book and make s’mores at. We use the gym 4-5 days a week and it has all the equipment you need for a solid workout. Dancers/yoga enthusiasts like myself get to enjoy the second floor room with mirrors stretching floor to ceiling, wall to wall with plenty of room to move about. The community center is a fabulous area for group gatherings, as experienced during our many events hosted for the tenants here - I love that the neighborly attitude is encouraged here. Mailboxes and the lockers for packages have been secure from my experience. Everything requires a key fob for entry here.
A couple extra perks at additional costs - on site storage units of all sizes and covered car ports! Love my car so this is important for safety. And I’m planning wedding so extra storage is necessary ring now!
I must say, the units themselves are incredible. New appliances, high ceilings, warm lights, plenty of cabinetry, good sized walk-in closet space, in-unit laundry, bathtubs, are all things we were happy to get to check off our search list here.
Pet-friendly? Definitely. They have a gated dog park out front and keep dog treats in the office - they might remember your fur baby’s name before yours. Don’t be offended ;)
I know for some time they also rented out a show unit to tenants if family/friends were visiting. My parents rented this out and sincerely enjoyed their stay. This is an extra special feature I appreciate because they were able to stay near, but comfortably in their own space. And saved the expense of renting a car or ubering to us every day.
Overall, The Monroe has been such a special place to call home. Highly recommended.
