I was scheduled to view both a one- and two-bedroom apartment at 11:00 AM. I arrived approximately 30 minutes early and was greeted by Rae, who was assisting another guest at the front desk. When she asked if I had an appointment, I responded, “Yes, I’m scheduled for 11:00 AM, but I’m a little early.” I was happy to wait. While I understood that she needed to finish assisting the other guest, I asked whether your property offered self-guided tours. Rae replied, “No, here, we do things the right way,” and suggested I wait by the pool or in my car. I found her response unnecessary and unprofessional—particularly the phrasing, which implied that my question or expectation was somehow inappropriate. As someone who has visited many properties offering self-showings, I was simply inquiring. Her tone and choice of words felt dismissive, and frankly, the interaction left me feeling as though I was being judged unfairly. As a young Black woman, I couldn’t help but feel that her demeanor carried undertones of bias and possibly steering. I had been genuinely looking forward to touring your beautiful apartment complex and potentially becoming a resident. However, this experience has made me reconsider. I will no longer be moving forward with the application process, nor will I recommend this property to others. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as first impressions are important, and no prospective resident should feel unwelcome.
