Security deposit taken. Papers signed and shown a physical apartment and then after all that work. It’s just not available. How hard is it to just do what an apartment does every day. Both times were in person. How do you not know what you have available in person. Two different leasing agents did this exact same thing.

I lived at the Commons at Sylvan Canyon for two years in Building 4 after moving from out of state. I want to provide the most honest review possible for anyone considering this property.
The property is incredibly quiet and offers an atmosphere that makes you feel safe. The security is a major standout; all doors are secure, and access is only granted via a specific security device or through the call box at the main entrance of each building.
One of the biggest drawbacks is the parking situation, which is a common reality throughout most of Portland, especially near city centers. I was fortunate enough to get a parking garage based on availability, which solved all my issues since I had a dedicated space and remote access. Before that, I sometimes had to wait 15 to 30 minutes for a spot to open up during the evening rush. While this is a common criticism of the area, it's something to be aware of if you don't have a garage.
The units are modern, incredibly efficient, and offer low utility costs for a studio. I’ve seen reviews claiming maintenance is slow, but in my experience, that is completely untrue. Every time I opened a ticket through the portal, someone arrived within 24 hours. For example, when my garbage disposal went out about nine months ago, a maintenance tech was there with a brand-new replacement within just a couple of hours.
To be clear, my decision to move had nothing to do with the apartment itself. The two main factors were my commute and my education. Dealing with the highway traffic through the tunnel from Beaverton into Portland finally became too much after two years. I want to emphasis this, the traffic in this area effects everyone, not only those in this complex. So this issue is not unique nor a negative mark on this property. Additionally, as a student at Portland Community College, I simply needed to be closer to my school.
So to conclude, I would strongly recommend this apartment to anyone. The staff always treated me with respect, and I always felt safe—to me, those are the most important factors in any complex. Despite the external challenges like area traffic or parking, the customer service and security are why I am giving this property five stars. If you decide to live here, know that it is a great place that I myself would gladly lease again at a moments notice.

Living here has it's pros and cons.
The pros? It's right off the highway, it's near downtown.
The cons? A lot of the concerns that I and other residents have go unattended. Things such as: car break-ins, broken garage doors (that we pay upwards of $175 a month to park in), stolen parking spots, stolen packages, and what seems like new leasing agents every time you go into the office. The parking situation is absolutely atrocious, as unpaid spots are first come, first serve with the capacity for, at most, 15-20% of the tenants. Noise complaints often get completely swept under the rug, and almost every time I have arrived, my building smells like various types of smoke. Many of the apartments also have no direct sunlight, so if that is something you care about, don't move here.
tldr: if you're thinking about moving here, don't.

First of all, I have to say how much I appreciate the staff at The Commons at Sylvan Canyon.
They go above and beyond to make me feel at home and address any concerns I have.
Today, I was having technical difficulties and Brianna not only helped me receive an Amazon package 📦, but was helpful in offering help with me logging into my app. With kindness, might I add.
Thank you so much for making my transition to your apartment complex easier. 🙏🌸

So far the place is great! The move in process was pretty quick and easy. Brianna was friendly and very helpful during the tour && summiting an application for the apartment! Mariah was very tentative about the process and made sure I secured a unit before they were taken! Love the area and quick access to highways !
