I feel so lucky to be able to call this place home! Everything from the luxury apartment itself, to the amenities, and most importantly the lovely leasing office and maintenance staff, make this place by far the best place I have ever rented! They are pet friendly, and do tons of events for the residents 🤍 Plus you cannot beat the location! It feels very safe walking around the area, and is walking distance from downtown Durham. The amenities are great too! The rooftop pool, multiple lounges, package room, and complementary coffee, are all so well maintained. Plus, it’s right across the street from Bull City Cider Works. Having just moved from Tampa, the pricing is unbeatable (:

I have been living at Venable Durham Apartments for more than a year now, and overall I am more than happy with my experience.
The apartments are new, modern, and very well designed. The one-bedroom layouts are especially convenient and make great use of the space. The complex also offers a nice rooftop swimming pool and lounge area, which is definitely a plus.
One of the most important aspects for me has been maintenance. Whenever I submit a request, it is usually taken care of by the next day, which is excellent. The maintenance team always does a great job. Also, I really appreciate the effort management puts into maintaining a safe and secure environment
The location is another major advantage. It is very convenient for commuting to the RTP area, while also being within walking distance of downtown Durham.
Some people mention the train noise as a concern. While it is true that you can occasionally hear the train, in my experience it has not been disruptive or annoying.
Finally, I would like to highlight the people in the leasing office. They have always been very helpful throughout my stay.
Overall, I would definitely recommend Venable Durham Apartments to anyone looking for a comfortable, well-managed, and conveniently located place to live.
Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic apartment complex. My major concerns are out of Venable's control, for the most part.
What's Amazing:
* Apt room layouts
* Kitchen islands in many apartments are HUGE and the kitchens are massive. If you love cooking or entertaining, these units are perfect for you.
* No pest problems to date. I haven't seen bugs. Like, at all. Impressive, even in common areas.
* Parking is wonderful. So many neighboring facilities have limited parking or parking gates that keep breaking because they are those difficult to repair gates. These are just folding arm gates and there are 8 floors of parking with EV charging. You will never have trouble finding a space. It is never full.
* Amazing decor, scents, and amenities. The common areas are wonderfully decorated and just perfect. Rooftop pool and rooftop area in general is amazing and underutilized.
* Location is amazing, close to everything downtown, very walkable, easy access to 147, DPAC, restaurants, and more.
What's Annoying:
* The fridge. Yeah, sounds weird, literally. The GE model of fridges here are French door and massive. They are actually spacious, modern, and wonderful except that they make a knocking sound that literally sounds like someone knocking on your door. It is loud and annoying, and took me weeks to learn to ignore. They are not broken, just a design flaw.
* The Fruit. No, not that kind of fruit, I mean the ridiculous EDM club on Dillard that plays amplified thumping bass from 10pm to 2am on Thursday nights and weekends. If your apartment faces the train tracks, you will hear it, and it is terrible. Nonstop and unbearable. It sounds like the music is coming from next door, not across the street. Do not expect to sleep soundly on Thursday nights or weekends. The city does not enforce the noise ordinance when police are called. The music continues. I am even considering getting hotel rooms on Thursday nights because it messes with my sleep so much for work on Friday. If you can afford the rent, get a unit not facing the tracks so you can reduce noise from the club and train. Venable needs to do a better job informing residents about this issue and soundproofing their units. The combination of ear plugs, brown noise sound machines, and bluetooth speakers playing thunderstorms and rain showers help with the deep bass from the professional EDM played at The Fruit.
* The train. So loud. If visiting, spend time in the unit when the train comes, if possible, or just hang out on the street in front of the unit on the sidewalk when the train comes by. It's only somewhat quieter inside. My unit sounds like a train is going through my kitchen and the train comes as late at 10:18pm daily (often later), and 6:18am (often earlier), with many more trains throughout the day. It took about 1 month to not wake up to it, so be prepared. Honestly, the train is oddly easier to get used to than the bass from the EDM music at The Fruit.
* The gym: it's nice, but has its flaws. It is in the next building, so when raining or snowing, you have to walk across the street. It has no leg equipment other than cardio. No punching bags (was hoping for high speed punching bag) and there are no hooks to hang your sweatshirts, jackets, bags. You have to go in to the locker room to put anything away so people just throw jackets on the floor. It's a common space so Venable doesn't seem to have much control over what goes in that space or any upgrades to it. What you see is what you get, so be sure to take it all in and decide if it is enough for you. I get jealous when I see the Camden gym across the street through the window.
