Cons: - Walls are thin — Upstairs neighbor has either a creaky bed or specific spot where the floor is creaky near my/his bedroom. I’m sure he is aware of this and some days he’s extra annoying about it. I’ve resulted in buying earbuds that fit flush into my ears to suppress the noise which helps since I’m a pretty light sleeper. Im also able to hear his TV if I stay quiet enough - Upstairs neighbor smokes in apartment which leaks into mine; informed staff about smokey smell and they only sent out maintenance to use Ozone machine to clear the smell. (I have no definitive proof that he smokes in his apartment, however, I have seen him come from the store with packs of cigarettes and beer and I’ve never seen him smoke outside. Also, even after the ozone machine treatment, I notice my apartment will still smell like cigarette smoke with some days being worse than others) - Bugs; when moving in the bugs/roaches were especially bad which I believe was a combination of the rainy weather and the poor cleaning from the previous tenant. However after months of keeping it clean and the monthly spraying that maintenance does, I don’t have as big of an issue. Only after consistent heavy rainfall will bugs and roaches appear. Pros: - Location; close to Duke campus and downtown Durham. Can get around using public busing. Close enough to shopping centers that you could walk. - Maintenance; never had an issue with the respond time of maintenance. They’ve put up with even my most ridiculous requests. If an issue is reported early in the week, they often are able to address the issue that same week or bring a person in for a follow up. - Amenities; they are pretty decent. I haven’t used the pool, tennis court, dog park, or child playground so can’t speak for those. I do however use the gym on occasion and it’s sufficient enough. They could do better with the spacing by getting rid of the 2 individual workout rooms which could allow for more machines. - Spacing; apartment has plenty of space and in-unit laundry included. I have a 1 bed, 1 bath and have no issue with not having enough space for myself.
