  After viewing the 360° virtual tour, I would like to warn you that this is NOT a good place. The apartments are unfinished. You can see the wires from the breaker, all of the pipes, and the pumps. The appliances may not be old, but the apartment itself is old. The ceilings and walls have mold, the blinds are too thin, and the doors are flat. Doors have panels to absorb more sound! I do not even know how this place is habitable.

  I was very interested in moving into Highland Mill Lofts while relocating from California to North Carolina, but the experience with their leasing office was incredibly disappointing. After submitting my application and paying the application fee ($373!), I tried calling multiple times during business hours — every call went straight to voicemail. I left messages and never heard back. Two weeks passed with no update, no email, no phone call — nothing. It honestly feels like they just took our application fee and completely ghosted me and my partner. For a property that looks so promising, the lack of communication and professionalism from management was really disheartening. If this is how they treat potential residents, I can only imagine how they handle actual tenants.

  This review is specifically for Sedrick, the maintenance technician. I’ve requested a few minor repairs for my unit and he’s always been happy to help, asks me how my day is going, and genuinely wants to fix the issue instead of providing a temporary solution that would cause a bigger problem down the road. Even seeing him around the property it’s nice to say hey and talk briefly. I’ve had 8 other apartments/homes and Sedrick is easily the most attentive, caring maintenance tech I’ve experienced.

  Living here is a treat, honestly. The building/complex is super unique, well-built, and visually impressive. It's central to tons of entertainment, food, culture, and public transportation. And, above all, the leasing office and its staff are incredible--flexible, communicative, and compassionate. Not to mention that similarly sized floor plans in the newer construction in the area are significantly more expensive. There's a reason why this complex stays full up! If you have a chance to tour and find yourself drawn to the location and aesthetic, there is no better place to be.

  I would strongly caution anyone considering living here. I moved in February, and within a few months discovered mold in my apartment. I immediately notified both management and corporate, but my emails were met with slow, vague responses that lacked any clear timelines for action. When I followed up, I still received no reply. I eventually had to go into the office, where I was told they “hadn’t seen” that specific email — despite my having sent multiple emails about the issue — and was asked to resend it. I was told a corporate meeting would address the situation, but I never received any follow-up. For my health and safety, I moved all of my belongings out in May. Instead of addressing the problem, management asked me to sign an “all-release” form that would waive their liability without admitting fault. I refused. We went to court, but the case was dismissed — not because there was no mold, but because the mold was never officially tested. Shockingly, after all of this, they still billed me for the full month of May, despite my no longer living there. This entire experience was unsafe, unprofessional, and frustrating. The lack of accountability and disregard for tenant well-being here is unacceptable. I would not recommend renting at this property to anyone. I wish I could attach a video, but reviews don’t allow it — and honestly, even the photos don’t do it justice.
