Management and maintenance are friendly and responsive. We had a couple of very minor maintenance issues upon move-in, but the maintenance team is on top of things. Rent is on the higher side for the area, but fair given the quality of the apartment. There are a lot of good restaurants nearby on Eat Street and in Uptown. Parking in the garage is pretty expensive, but the garage is well-kept, and it's not usually too difficult to find street parking. The area is very good for walking and biking, and public transit is okay but could be better. Especially if you have a car, it's not too difficult at all to get to most places in Minneapolis. I haven't had any issues with disruptive neighbors so far, and a lot of them have cute, friendly dogs that love attention. Prior to moving in, I saw crime listed as a big concern for the Whittier neighborhood, and I have witnessed one crime down the road, but it was purely a personal dispute. The people here generally range from quiet/private to friendly, and I feel safer in Whittier than in other neighborhoods or cities I've been in. Overall I would definitely recommend The Whit for someone on the hunt for a good apartment in a culturally diverse and very queer-friendly part of Minneapolis.

I've lived at The Whit for almost 4 months. My experience so far has been ok. The person who managed the property when I moved in was in the process of moving to a different location and was not very clear in communication about a number of issues. The quality of the apartments is a lot lower than appears at first glance. The building materials are cheap and you can hear a lot through the walls. The common areas are often a little dirty or untidy, but are usually cleaned up within a couple of days. And it's clear that there's at least one person doing illicit activity in the building (I assume selling drugs, but no clear evidence). The staff has had varying levels of engagement to address any of these issues. However, there's been quite a bit of staff turnover since I've lived here, which I assume has contributed to some of these issues. The new property manager, Liz, has made a good effort to address many of the issues I've addressed with her. Prior to her help, I would have given this place a 2 or 3 star review. There's a lot to like, including incredible views of the Minneapolis skyline and a nice location close to downtown, Uptown, Eat Street, etc. After her help, I'm leaning more towards a 3 to 4 star, and gave the benefit of the doubt with this review. I'm not planning to renew because I think the units a little overpriced for the building quality (and I may be leaving Minneapolis anyway), but the customer service quality has been improved significantly and would increase my desire to stay here if I decide to stay in Minneapolis.
