Reposting my amended review since my last one conveniently disappeared:
The location is the only redeeming quality of this place. Being close to the lakes is great. But this building is the definition of lipstick on a pig. Everything looks decent on the surface, but the second you move in, the illusion crumbles.
I’ve lived here for less than two months & I’ve already submitted more maintenance requests than I did in two years at my last apartment. My oven was broken for nearly two months. Maintenance shut my cats’ litter box inside the closet TWICE; The work order had nothing to do with that area, and both times, my cat lost access to her litter box for hours. They have zero respect for your space. I came home once to find pieces of a toilet tank overflowing from my personal garbage can. Not bagged, not cleaned up, just left for me to deal with.
My oven has since been replaced. The process took significantly longer than anticipated and communication was minimal.
I was especially worried when the gas smell returned even with the new appliance. I went down to the office and spoke with Michele. She sent maintenance back to my unit.
Mike came back to my unit with a gas sniffer and assured me what I was smelling was manufacturers oils burning off. However, the next day I came home around 10:30 PM, I immediately noticed a strong gas smell in the apartment. I became concerned, especially since a new oven had just been installed the day before. I contacted emergency maintenance and also attempted to reach CenterPoint Energy, but was initially unable to get help due to verification issues.
Over the course of several phone calls with the emergency maintenance tech, I was repeatedly met with dismissive and unprofessional behavior. I was told, “I work for another building and I’ve NEVER had to deal with this,” and “YOU go ahead and call the gas company to fix it since they are going to do the same things that I would do when I got there.” I was being treated as a nuisance instead of a tenant reporting a potentially dangerous situation.
Eventually, I was able to get a CenterPoint tech to come out late that night. He confirmed that there was, in fact, an active gas leak coming from the oven and immediately shut off the gas supply to the appliance. I wasn’t able to get a full night’s sleep because of the stress, the back-and-forth, and the wait for professional help late into the night. I had to make decisions about mine and my pet’s safety at 1am — in an apartment I’m paying a significant amount for, where I expect to feel secure. This experience seriously undermined my sense of safety and peace in the place im supposed to call home.
What concerns me even more is that the next morning, I receive a text from maintenance offering to have someone “come in to confirm it’s not leaking” — after the leak had already been verified by a licensed professional. Not only was the response completely dismissive/minimizing, but it made me feel genuinely gaslit. While I understand mistakes happen, this entire situation has had a severe impact on my confidence in the maintenance teams competence and judgement to properly do their jobs — especially when it comes to appliance installation and anything involving safety. I dont feel safe relying on them for anything beyond very basic tasks like unclogging a toilet or patching a wall. The way this was handled both in terms of initial oversight and follow-up communication was unacceptable. No tenant should have to beg for help or be treated with this kind of disregard in a potentially dangerous situation.
The building refuses to take accountability for their negligence and has put forth zero effort in meaningfully rectifying the situation. Instead all I got was an email stating “sorry that was so stressful for you.” It was not merely stressful. It was a HAZARD that could’ve had catastrophic results had it gone unchecked. They do not care about you….but don’t worry, they'll act eventually, probably right after the explosion. If you value your safety and peace of mind, look literally anywhere else.
