Located a few short steps from both Capitol Park and Woodward Avenue, 35 West is a 10-story neoclassical building offering 1 and 2 bedroom apartments ranging from 643 to 876 square feet right in the heart of downtown. Each apartment features large windows and contemporary finishes including quartz kitchen countertops and slab backsplashes, brand name plumbing fixtures and appliances throughout. The inside of the apartments are very aesthetically pleasing, but the size and thin walls make it not worth the rent.
Cons: I am not exaggerating when I say that anytime someone in an apartment next to or above you closes a cabinet (not soft close), a drawer, or the microwave, it sends a slamming sound that hat echos throughout the ENTIRE apartment. I wish I had toured in late afternoon so I would have known and picked a different apartment building. As a student, it is unbearable to study at home because it is constant and extremely loud. I try to be super cautious closing things because I know it must be terrible for everyone else, but sometimes there is nothing you can do. The walls are just so thin! I can hear whatever music the apartments around me play, and if the person above me drops anything in their bedroom, I can hear it from the hall or bathroom.
The move-In process sucks. The elevator can just barely fit a king bed, and only with one person in. Good luck with big furniture if it’s pre-assembled. They also only have the one elevator, so you have to wait for residents to use it while you are trying to move in (with usually bo area to park and unload in front of the building).
Also, if cigarettes or weed smoke bother you, don’t move in. I don’t smoke, but my apartment smells like I do constantly because the smell from the other apartments comes in through the vents.
Finally, no amenities. You can walk over to the Scott, but it’s ridiculous we pay so much money and have literally nothing here. The Scott isn’t that much more and they have incredible amenities—same company.
Pros: The location is ideal, the building feels very safe, most people who live here are incredibly friendly. People don’t steal your packages, and the maintenance and cleaning staff are fantastic, (getting in touch with admin is a different story).

Read carefully before moving in. The apartment is beautifully designed and the the building is well maintained and super secure. The neighborhood is vibrant with much to explore and do.
This is NOT a smoke-free building. The lease prohibits smoking but my apartment has smelled like smoke due to residents ignoring the rule. It can be hard to bare at times as it comes through the vents into my bedroom. The lease you will sign contains the following language:
"THERE IS NO WARRANTY OF A SMOKE FREE ENVIRONMENT. Although we prohibit smoking in all interior parts of the apartment community, there is no warranty or guaranty of any kind that your apartment or the apartment community is smoke free."
Also, it is insanely LOUD. The garbage trucks come down the back alley at 4:30 every morning and you'll hear the beeping trucks and dumpster after dumpster crashing to the ground for about 30 min. Woodward Ave is used as a racetrack on weekends and you'll hear motorcycles and cars roar and their loud music until well past midnight when it's not freezing outside.
If you own a bike, you’ll need to find another place to park it. Or, you can maneuver around to make it fit in the tiny elevator and store it in your apartment.
Your furniture may not fit in the elevator. It's tiny and there is no service elevator.
All of that said - I appreciate the modern amenities at 35w. If you ever have even the smallest issue, the service team is ON IT. So professional and so quick to resolve it.
