More and his crew did an excellent job fixing the minor and major problems we had in our apartment.

We lived in this place for two years, and our experience with management was very disappointing. They required a 60-day notice to move out, which is unusually strict compared to other places I’ve rented. Even though we told them well in advance that we were leaving, we responded in writing through the electronic form they sent asking if we wanted to renew or not, clearly indicating we did not want to renew. Despite this, they didn’t send us the official notice form until there were fewer than 60 days remaining. Once we received that form, we promptly filled it out and returned it. Despite this, they claimed we had given insufficient notice and charged us for an entire extra month of rent, even though our lease only ran 7 days into that month. On top of that, they withheld our entire security deposit without any clear explanation beyond saying it was used to cover the extra month, even though we were already charged separately for it. We emailed them and called multiple times on different days from different phones trying to resolve the issue, but they were very slow to respond and ultimately offered no solution. We ended up having to pay everything they demanded. Also be aware that they have a policy where you are only allowed to pay rent on the first day of the month, and if you forget, they charge you $100 per day for each day it’s late. I feel this is extremely strict and unreasonable—they don’t give you any grace period or payment window. I’ve never encountered anything like that in other places I’ve rented. In every other apartment I’ve lived in, simply confirming the lease-end date was enough notice, and I always received my full deposit back. This has been my worst rental experience.

If you want to live in a building where the power goes out for 3-5 days at a time every month or 2, and when the fire alarms go off in the middle of the night every month (sometimes multiple nights in a two week span leading us to waiting outside in the cold with our pets), then this is the place for you. Otherwise, avoid this place. Listen to the other reviews. The apartment may look nice, but the jarring interruptions into your life are not. Having lived in several large apartment complexes in Chicago, the number of power outages and fire alarms in this building is unprecedented. Yes, part of the power outage situation is due to DTE, but this building is not built in an area with modern/updated power grids. The prices are not worth your sanity, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE. P.S. The theatre room, which they advertise as a unique amenity, is completely useless because management doesn’t even know the password to their own Amazon Firestick, even after asking several times to have them figure it out.

Lived at The George for a year and a half. The apartments themselves and amenities (coffee room, gym, pool) are very nice and well-kept. We felt it was a good price for what you received. Moe the maintenance guy is great, there at all hours but he really needs more staff to help out to get requests handled. Dog friendly and easy to walk your dog through the neighborhoods around. The negatives are the trash chutes would occasionally be full and residents would just leave trash bags in the rooms. The apartment walls are thinner but never caused us too much inconvenience. Overall would recommend living at the George if you want a newer-style apartment with nice amenities.
