Hello everyone, I have lived at this complex for about a year now. The staff has been nothing but helpful and respectful. I feel that they go above and beyond compared to any other complex I have lived in. To start when I applied to move here I had negative days to find an apartment because the one I thought I was moving into(at another complex) was deemed unlivable right when our uhaul pulled up…. Instant stress kicked in…..we had no home and that was not planned. Elm at the refuge office staff listened to our situation and got us an apartment that is beautiful in less than 24hrs!!
Now I see people in the reviews complaining about thin walls. I live in an exterior building so I can only speak for my experience. I have no issues with my neighbors. Do I hear random bangs or booms? Sure when someone’s redecorating or moving in or out. I’ve NEVER had an issue where I felt like I wanted to report someone or even knock on my neighbors door to ask them to keep it down. I live on the 2nd floor btw.
During the summer months I regularly use the pool and I’ve witnessed the lifeguard save multiple children from falling into the pool or their pool floaty flipping them under. They do an amazing job. The pool is clean and regularly shocked. I grew up with a pool and understand the maintenance that is needed. Elms life guards do a great job. They also had a dog day at the end of pool season! My dog LOVED that extra points!!
The complex is well kept they have dead flowers and bushes removed and replaced when the season is right. I have a dog and regularly go to the dog park and walk him around the complex. The office staff does a good job at sending out reminders to pick up after your dog. I do think more doggy trash areas wouldn’t hurt. The only reason you would see pet poop not picked up in the complex is because of poor and careless OWNERS not lack of elms resources or staff.
Parking here is LOVELY! I always have a spot in-front of my building. If you have visitors they get a parking pass. If you have more than one visitor the office staff has gave us extra parking passes and we return them after. Visitors only need a parking pass if they are staying overnight. I believe the times are 11pm-5am towing happens but don’t quote me on that.
The maintenance team here is hands down the best we’ve worked with! We’ve recently had a big snow storm and they were out here the next day with snow blowers and the brush cleaners clearing sidewalks. The second day they continued doing the same thing. The following days the complex had a bobcat clearing the street better than the plows and clearing parking spots. Today the office sent out an email that maintenance can now start clearing out vehicles if the resident is okay with it and can supervise. I haven’t had anything big happen in the apartment that I couldn’t fix but in the beginning of moving here we chipped the corner of the wall and they took care of it after we were completely moved in.
I really enjoy living here and I recommend it to all of my friends when they are looking to move. Hands down THE best complex’s in Laurel by FAR! :)
After the recent snowfall, the complex has been unable to clear enough parking spaces for residents. As a result, many vehicles are now parked along Refuge, at the main entrance to the neighborhood, even with clear “No Parking” signs posted.
Because of these vehicles:
• Plows have been unable to clear both lanes
• Traffic is reduced to one lane in and out
• Visibility at the entrance is worse for those turning right out of the Elms
• Emergency vehicle access could be affected
On Monday, a contractor who was plowing stated the parking along Refuge, which is a county road, was impeding their ability to fully clear the road. Yesterday, larger delivery trucks struggled to get around the vehicles parked along Refuge. If bigger vehicles are having that much trouble, it raises concerns about what would happen with emergency vehicles.
That overflow is unsafe and should be addressed/communicated with residents as soon as possible.
Kandice is unresponsive but would respond before I moved in.. issues with your unit they say someone is coming but never do.. walls paper thin I could have a whole conversation with my neighbor through these walls.. I hear every snore and everything else.. do not recommend

We stayed here temporarily, visiting the residence frequently from another state for more than a year, likely among the first tenants of the complex. There is not much to dislike in a brand-new complex. The staff are respectful and helpful. The complex offers a public pool and gym, which are pretty decent. Perhaps the most notable factor for us was its proximity to the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge, which was our favorite weekend hiking destination. Unfortunately, the proximity to nature comes with the disadvantage of being far from other amenities, such as grocery stores. Nevertheless, places like Whole Foods are at a reasonable 20-30 minute driving distance from the Elms. An issue that was unfortunately extremely annoying to us was the smell of neighbor tenants smoking all sorts of things and nasty stuff. I hope the Elms management finds a solution to this issue or bans smoking entirely within or in the vicinity of the buildings. The complex also claims to have its own hiking trails, although we were unable to find them. The tenants who live on the third and fourth floors, facing eastward, will witness stunning sunrise sky colors and the beauty of Patuxent Wildlife Refuge trees. The staff were invaluable and kind to us, making our stay memorable. Among them, Candice notably interacted with us and was super helpful and flexible with our constraints. I hope they continue leaving good memories for future tenants with their kindness and flexibility.

I had an amazing touring experience with Kandice at Elms at The Refuge. From the moment we met, she was warm, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable about the community. She took her time walking me through the property, answered every question thoroughly, and made sure I felt comfortable and informed throughout the entire tour. Kandice genuinely cares about what residents are looking for, and it truly shows in how she presents the community. I’m looking forward to completing the application and would highly recommend touring with Kandice if you’re considering Elms at The Refuge.
