I would rate them 0 stars if I could.
It has been an absolute nightmare dealing with GC Realty from the very beginning. Let's start with this: the unit was listed as having in-unit laundry (found the unit on Trulia, and I filtered my results to only show me units that had in-unit laundry, and it popped up with "in-unit laundry" listed as one of the amenities), and it in fact does not. It has ONE single washer and ONE dryer the basement that everyone in the complex shares. Since moving in, the dryer has stopped working 4 or 5 times. They have never sent someone to fix it after 1 or 2 phone calls. I will literally have to call them, everyday, multiple times a day sometimes, for them to come fix it SEVERAL DAYS LATER. Then, it works for maybe a week and breaks down again. It's EXTREMELY CLEAR to me that the dryer needs to be replaced. But they're cheap. They don't want to solve the issue. They want to put a bandaid on it. Leaving me to go to laundromats when I SPECIFICALLY searched for an apartment with in-unit laundry to avoid this.
I've had several issues with their maintenance/response team, but here is the biggest: bedbugs. Now, I'm not necessarily blaming the complex for having bedbugs in my unit. I travel a decent amount and I understand how that goes (even though I generally travel cautiously and have not had the problem before moving here). I notified GC Realty about the bedbugs on Sunday, October 26. It was a Sunday, so I gave them some grace for not getting back to me that day. I called the following Monday, and they said someone from the pest control team would be getting back to me later that day, or possibly the next day. No one did. I called them back on Wednesday, October 29, and explained that I still had not heard anything about someone from pest control treating our house for bedbugs. I was told once again, that someone would call me back in 24-48 hours. I expressed my frustration, as we had been living with bedbugs for days. I told them that it was already past the original timeframe I was given, and someone needs to be doing something about this ASAP. I was still met with no sense of urgency, and was told there was nothing that could be done to speed up the process. At this point, I took that to mean that GC Realty was once again going to move at whatever slow pace they want to move at, and I could not stand the thought of living with bedbugs any longer. I took it upon myself to call an exterminator on my own and set up an appointment myself. The next day, Thursday, October 30, I got a phone call from an unknown number. It turned out to be someone from the pest control team that they'd reached out to. I told the employee there that I had actually decided to pay someone on my own. He explained that it doesn't actually matter, and since GC called him, he HAS to come out to AT LEAST inspect the unit and make sure everything is all clear. I understood and agreed. He said he would come the next day, Friday, October 31 at 3pm. Friday at 3pm came and went, and I had been home. Around 5, I called back and asked why no one ever came. I can’t remember what the full excuse was, but basically he said that something came up. He said he could come the following day (Saturday, November 1) around 3. Both my roommate and I were home at that time. No one ever came. Nor did anyone ever call. I called GC Realty today (Thursday, November 6), and they said the work order was completed on Friday, October 31. I told them that that's not true, as no one ever came to even inspect the home, and they basically said that since that's what the work order says, then it must be true. I am over them. They are cheap, and now, it seems as though they are liars. The complex itself is nice (when they decide to clean it) and the area is great. This would be such an amazing place to live if they actually took care of their residents. So much potential thrown away because they want to be money hungry. I would never recommend anyone ever lives with them and I, myself, will certainly NEVER rent with them again.
