Disappointing Stay – Misrepresentation of ‘Luxury’ Accommodation My daughter recently booked a four-night stay through the Sun Holiday scheme in a “luxury” (pet-free) caravan, and I booked directly with the same site for what was described as an equivalent “luxury” (pet-free) caravan with a sea view. Unfortunately, the accommodation I received fell far short of that description. The standard of the caravan was extremely disappointing. All flooring was laminate with no carpeting, the sofas were leatherette rather than fabric, and there were no scatter cushions or net curtains. Overall, it did not reflect what I would expect from a pet-free or “luxury” environment. The advertised sea view was also misleading, as it was barely visible without significant effort. Privacy was another concern. When we opened the bedroom curtains, we were directly overlooked by neighbouring decking and living areas, which meant people could see straight into the bedroom. Simple additions such as net curtains would have made a significant difference. The on-site facilities were also underwhelming. Children’s entertainment was minimal, with only a short period involving a bubble machine and limited activities thereafter. While the sing-alongs were enjoyable, the children’s character (“Bear in the Woods”) only appeared once during our stay. The swimming pool was basic and uncomfortably cold. What made this even more frustrating was the comparison with my daughter’s £200 Sun Holiday caravan, which was superior in almost every way. Her accommodation included fabric sofas, scatter cushions, net curtains throughout, carpeting in the living area, a dishwasher, two shower rooms, and a large decking area. I did raise my concerns with reception staff during our stay. Unfortunately, the response was dismissive — I was told this was considered their “luxury” standard and that nothing could be done. I was simply handed a card and advised to leave a review if I was unhappy. Overall, paying over £500 for four nights for this standard of accommodation is unacceptable. Combined with the unhelpful attitude from staff, the experience was very disappointing. I would not return and would instead choose alternative parks, such as St Minver Holiday Park, where both the accommodation quality and customer service are significantly better.

To be fair. It's dated and not very clean. Cobwebs and dust everywhere. The bed is a nightmare. Past it's use by date by years. Couch it resembles a concrete block. Disappointed in the room. This day and age towels are supplied everywhere and a few amenities. It's the little things guys. Won't be back.

These guys have no “no smoking” policy in place and they rely on holiday makers to follow rule of law and not smoke in their accommodations - please see image to confirm this. We arrived and were given a key and chalet number; we walked into the chalet and it smelled like a cheap 70’s hotel room with the disgusting hum of cigarette smoke. We’re non smokers and there’s no way we were going to deal with the stink - the bedding reeked, there was cigarette ash on the couch and it wqs an absolute “NO WAY”. I went to reception and advised that our chalet smelled like an ashtray. The very, very helpful ladies in customer service looked to see if there was anywhere else they could send us but they were full and it looked unlikely that they’d be able to provide a chalet that didnt stink! 10 or so minutes later, an aggressive, confrontational manager arrived and she explained and I quote “we have 100’s of accommodations and we cant check every chalet when guests depart”. I asked why there was no carte blanche demand that guests not smoke in accommodations and apparently its in the works??? Really!!! In this day and age??? Long story short, we threatened to cancel and about 10 minutes later, their aggressive, utterly charmless manager found us an alternative chalet - fortunately no smell of smoking We shared our chalet with swarms of ants. Ants were every where constantly - in our bed, suitcases, clothing and shower. After the experience we’d had with the first chalet we decided not to say anything - we were concerned that they’d move is again and we back at square 1. The chalet was dated and very basic - £700 for a week in a chalet that was literally 50 years old plus (please see pics). On a positive note, the Sands Bistro was great. Service was exceptional; Chloe just couldnt do enough to assist. Food on the whole was ok most of the time, however on a bank holiday Monday they were overrun, short staffed and food quality suffered enormously. Would I recommend? No. Poor management at guest services - officious, blunt and completely lacking empathy. Ants - my Wife hated it. 5 mile drive from St Ives and you’ll have to drive or take the bus. The beach is superb but a long, long walk DOWN a steep sand dune and exhausting for anyone less mobile - the return journey was harsh after hours of antics on the beach - for everyone!

The accommodation was already disappointing — hot, stuffy, outdated, and genuinely uncomfortable. The beds were so bad that getting any proper rest was impossible. For the price, the condition of the place is shocking: old, poorly maintained, and clearly not suitable for a comfortable stay. But the worst part wasn’t even the accommodation. It was the customer service. When I raised my concerns, instead of helping, they became defensive and rude. The moment I challenged the poor service, they got angry and ended the call. No attempt to resolve anything, no professionalism, no respect. Just attitude and a hang‑up. Being told “it’s not standard” and that nothing can be done was already unacceptable — but being cut off for simply expecting basic customer care is beyond unprofessional. This experience has made it very clear they don’t value their customers, their accommodation is far below standard, and their staff can’t handle even the simplest complaint without reacting badly. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Avoid it if you expect comfort, honesty, or even the slightest level of customer service.

We're camping here. To be frank it's quite dirty and extremely noisy. The loos are like old swimming pool ones. The same half empty bottle of water has been sitting next to the toilet bowl on the floor in one of the loos for the whole bank holiday weekend. It is clear the facilities are not being cleaned. The music, which is next door to the camping field goes on until 11. It's very loud. I can only assume it's security who drive round the field every so often in the night with a cranky diesel vehicle. It's very expensive for a field without any separation and no WiFi. The loos and showers are quite dirty because it's so busy. The beach is a long walk away from the camping field. There is a big push to sell holiday homes here. I'm afraid we won't be back. I expect the same reply that all other negative reviews have received. The opening times of the swimming pool, bar etc seems quite scant. Upon arrival we were not given our birthday pack that we had prepaid to receive. I'm very disappointed. The site used to be fantastic. We haven't visited for some years. Cleaning update: whilst cleaning does not appear to have taken place in any depth ( for example there's still toothpaste stains around the sinks etc. ) a cone has been placed in the middle of the loo/shower block saying it is closed for cleaning. It has currently been there for at least 14 hours
