SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND DISMISSIVE MANAGEMENT
I have lived in this apartment for nearly three years, and I experienced a severe window safety failure that nearly injured my infant. One of our windows detached and fell inward, screen and all. If it had not been stopped by the blinds and curtains, it would have fallen directly onto my sleeping baby. This was not caused by misuse — we had never even opened these windows.
After the incident, a professional window company inspected the windows and confirmed the root cause: improper installation. The windows were installed incorrectly from the start, with two left hinges instead of a left and right, making them unsafe the entire time we’ve lived here. This means the danger existed for years without our knowledge.
What’s even more alarming is that this property conducts regular walkthrough inspections, yet no one noticed this installation defect. Maintenance had also been called previously regarding the windows, and the issue was never properly fixed, only overlooked again and again.
Despite the seriousness of this situation — involving a child and a clear life-safety hazard — the property manager’s responses have been dismissive and reactive rather than proactive. There has been no sense of urgency, accountability, or reassurance that other units are safe. No comprehensive inspection was offered until after the incident, and even then, communication has been minimal and deflective.
This situation has completely shaken our trust in management’s ability to maintain a safe living environment. Residents should not have to wait for a near-tragedy for basic safety issues to be taken seriously. I strongly caution families, especially those with children, to think twice before renting here
