My living experience with Five Oaks was below average at best. The maintenance crew onsite is the only redeemable quality about this property as they are easy to contact and come to fulfill orders within 24 hours (sometimes same day). Because of this, I could count on them to maintain my apartment to suitable living conditions. The below average rating goes for everything else associated with this community. I am sharing this review because I think other considering this community should hear from someone who stayed there for 2.5 years.
- Amenities: We decided to get a lease with Five Oaks specifically for their amenities, including the valet trash, gated community, pool access, pet grooming room/dog park, mailing room system and onsite gym. During our tenure at Five Oaks, all of these were either broken, not accessible, or in improper conditions for months at a time. Trash would pile up outside when the compactor broke, leaving rodents (rats, opossum, mice) running around the area, which is right next to the mail boxes. The gates for our "gated community" were always broken making it easy for anyone to get in and out of the community. Because of this, we saw a series of car break-ins having community members worried that theirs would be next. The pool was closed for the entire second summer were lived on the property with staff constantly saying that the pool would be opening "soon" or "next week". The dog park would be left unkept for weeks with grass growing so high that it covered the gates and the pet grooming station doors were constantly locked and/or not kept up for proper use. The mailing room system that allowed for larger packages to be stored in the Five Oaks mailing room was taken away, leaving packages to be constantly misplaced or stolen. The onsite gym was meant to be accessible until 10:30pm every day. The leasing office also stripped this away and made it only accessible during their operating hour, which was inconsiderate of workers (like myself) that also worked the same hours as the leasing staff.
- Communication with leasing office: Contacting the leasing office was also a terrible experience. The staff members are not onsite during the business hours that are listed and the staff team shifted every few months, making it difficult for you to understand who to go to for what matter. The worst of the experience was with our latest renewal process. The first time was made simple where the previous leasing staff sent over our renewal options well before the 60-day notice period so we were able to weigh the option of leaving the community or renew our lease. The second time around was a very poor experience. Not only did we not receive the same renewal experience, we were penalized for awaiting the emails were accustomed to because our notice ended up following outside of the 60-day notice period. With all the faults of the community, we did like our actual apartment and wanted to weigh the options like we did our first renewal process but never got a chance to do that. The leasing staff was not helpful and for weeks we were getting staff member pointing fingers at each other about who was in charge to help us with this matter. We ended up having to pay an extra month of rent to Five Oaks because the staff wrongfully put us on a month-to-month lease.
- Pegasus Communication: I tried to contact Pegasus when I realized that the Five Oaks community was not making it clear about who I should be working with regarding being wrongfully placed on a month-to-month lease. I never got in contact with anyone from this team even though I called multiple times, left messages with different teams (including the CEO's direct line), and sent a message via their website. That has been over 2 months ago to date and I have never received any communications from that team which is disheartening.
I would not recommend Five Oaks to any of my colleagues or any Pegasus Residential Community based on the experience I've been through. If I could mark "0" stars, I would.
