⭐ 1 Star — Would give zero if I could
I’ve lived at 2 L Street NW for almost two years, and it’s been one of the most disappointing and stressful rental experiences I’ve ever had.
The on-site management in this building doesn’t care about their tenants. If you report a legitimate issue, expect to be ignored, blamed, or dismissed with attitude. There’s no urgency, no accountability, and no professionalism.
I recently returned from a month-long trip to find a roach infestation in my apartment — despite the place being spotless. No food, no trash, not even a garbage bag in the bin. Roaches are repeatedly showing up in random places (i.e. closet, bedroom, bathroom drawers), as well as in my oven; a roach actually was inside my oven and surfaced while I was cooking. Disgusting, and clearly not caused by anything I did.
When I initially contacted management, I was told I’d have to wait two full weeks for pest control because they weren’t willing to pay for a visit outside the exterminator’s regular biweekly schedule. And to make it worse, pest control was already scheduled to be in the building that day, and no one told me. That’s the level of negligence you’re dealing with here.
After being completely dismissed by Mignon Brown and Felicia Boateng — who didn’t even respond to my email — I escalated the issue to Regional Property Manager Talia Puriford, who was the only one to take it seriously and a true godsend throughout this whole ordeal. After she stepped in, those same staff members suddenly emailed me at 9:30 p.m. that night asking for photos and claiming they’d resolve it “right away.” Pitiful.
Also, there’s no management staff available on-site on Wednesdays, which means no one is around to answer questions or address emergencies midweek. Even when staff is present, they do the bare minimum — leaving tenants to deal with issues like guest access disputes or unsafe behavior in the hallways without support.
Community engagement is also a joke. You’re paying $2,000+ a month, and you get nothing in return. On the rare occasion they plan a resident event that sounds decent, they hold it during standard work hours, so hardly any working tenants can attend.
The clearest example of their disregard for tenants? A community meeting was planned to address building concerns — and not a single member of the on-site team showed up. Why? They were at their company’s holiday party. That’s how little they prioritize the people actually living here.
Bottom line: aside from Talia Puriford, this building — and Kettler Management overall — is about profit, not people. Once your lease is signed, you’re no longer a priority. Don’t be fooled by the shiny finishes or nice location. The way this place is run behind the scenes will cost you your time, energy, and peace of mind.
Avoid 2 L Street NW and any Kettler-managed property.
