- JFJulie FeiaAug 4, 20175.0I have lived at Dwell (Formerly University Hills) for more than 15 years, and have seen 5 major changes in management. The current management is the best by far. The common areas are in the best condition i have seen. We have recently had a change in ownership which resulted in a 30% increase in our rent this past year. That was certainly a hardship, but they have completely remodeled and updated the property. If you have any association with UCR you cannot ask for a better location. It is one block off campus, and on the "safe" side of campus. The manager we now have, Peter, is consistently friendly, helpful, and responsive and has excellent listening skills--truly professional. He is also an exceptionally clear and careful writer which is crucial because so much communication between management and tenants is written. He is dressed impeccably without fail. We recently had technical problems with the package lockers. Despite it being an onerous task, Peter saw to it that all the packages were removed from the lockers and that every recipient was notified to come to the office to get their package. I point these things out because the first three management teams we had could best be describes as "shady." They were running scams of one sort or another, and then after they left we would find out that they had embezzled funds. Our first manager absconded with the pet deposits! I also had problems with rent being withdrawn twice a month which can cause some havoc with personal finances. I don't have any fear of that with the new ownership. The transitional manager, Melanie, was also very professional and did a great job transforming the property. They seem very concerned with keeping things above board, ethical, and running smoothly. Their website is a bit clunky, but it provides a very convenient way to check up on any notices I may have missed, to pay rent or fees, or request maintenance. The company makes effective use of technology with helpful emails. Peter answers emails very promptly. Melanie was great with this as well. The apartments are very large for the price thanks to the age of the buildings which I really don't care about. They were built in a time before apartments became the size of prison cells. And they are pet friendly. Highly recommended.
