I’ve been living at Link Apartments for about 3 months now. Here is my honest review given my full experience so far:
Things did start off rough but have gotten increasingly better. I had signed a lease for a two bed apartment that I had virtually toured and was very excited about. To my surprise, I was informed days later, after applying and signing my lease, that the apartment had already been leased to someone else and there had been a glitch in the system. I’ve never heard of something like this happening before. They had no comparable apartments available at the time and the lease on my former apartment was almost up so I had to move, making the situation very stressful. Thankfully, after some negotiation, the leasing office was able to work something out with me.
When I first moved in there were a few maintenance issues, however, Humberto did an incredible job to respond to all of my maintenance requests and fix the maintenance issues in a timely manner. He also checked with me several times after making repairs to ensure everything was still working properly. He is truly a gem!
The unit itself is nice and modern. I will say that the apartments are definitely not sound proof (I was told the cement between units would act as a sound barrier). I can hear my upstairs neighbor walk around, play music/tv, laugh loudly, etc.) I will say I can’t hear anything on the sides of or below me. There’s also a decent sound barrier to the outside. Smells also seem to be able to travel between units, which can be unpleasant at times. Other than that, I have no complaints about my unit.
The building itself is well maintained and clean. The trash and recycling chutes are very convenient. I’ve had no issues receiving mail or packages. The parking stackers do take patience, but I appreciate having somewhere secure to park my car. Parking also isn’t as expensive as other buildings in the area. The apartment building also feels very secure.
The leasing office staff are friendly and helpful. The property management company doesn’t feel like the typical corporate-like management. I appreciate that they host fun events and ways to win money off rent for residents. They also have a monitor by the elevators which has announcements for local nearby events and provides live departure times for public transportation.
Another gem is the Good Vybes and Brews coffee shop located right in the building! You can’t beat having direct access to great coffee. They have an awesome selection of nondairy milks and a variety of house-made flavorings that are a refreshing and unique twist to the usual artificial coffee drink flavors. You don’t have to be a resident to check it out and support!
Overall, I think for the price, convenience of being near multiple forms of public transportation, and in comparison to other apartment buildings in the area, Link Apartments is a solid choice. I’m satisfied with my decision to live here.

This review is solely based on cell phone reception. I have informed Link Management of this issue around August. There is poor cell phone reception, which the building material may cause. I have noticed problems with cell phone reception (T-Mobile) in all areas of the lobby, the gym, and the elevator area on the 6th floor. As of late October, the issue has not been fixed. Be wary and ask if cell phone reception is important to you.

I moved in 7 months ago. My unit was brand new, never lived in. Here's my experience:
- Put in close to 10 requests just to get a tour
- Moved in to find dead/dying gnats (a LOT) in every room in my apartment
- Took photos of the pests, shared them with the leasing office (leasing agent rolled his eyes and did nothing - I wanted to avoid drama so I let it go)
- I cleaned for two days prior to moving in instead of moving into a clean place
- My refrigerator didn't get cold enough so my food kept spoiling. I sent photos to the leasing office and multiple requests to maintenance. They did nothing, despite me being desperate enough to offer to buy my own fridge, with their consent.
- After months of a broken fridge and spoiling food, they finally replaced it after I left internal feedback
- There were drain flies coming out of my sink from the day I moved in, until a couple of months ago when the property manager told me to go deal with the problem myself (cause sure, I know how to solve this - I don't, I really don't) and they'd reimburse me
- The drain in my tub was broken for several months as well. Again, the property manager decided I could be my own maintenance team and deal with it myself.
- Strong, nauseating, migraine inducing artificial fragrances are being pumped through the entire downstairs lobby, mailroom and seeping into the elevators. You cannot avoid them if you want to get to your apartment.
- My original key fob and my replacement key fob both fail regularly. I would not be surprised if someday, someone gets robbed/worse while trying to get into this building and having their key fob fail repeatedly.
- I keep nothing on my balcony but found a dead (likely) cockroach on it. The property manager could not have cared less, took no action.
- Neighbor's dog pee/poop pad flew onto my balcony. Management argued with me, saying I should have told them to send out an email about it, versus just sharing the photo with them. (God forbid I expect you to know how to deal with your property.)
- District Manager is upset that I report issues until a solution is found and is trying to manufacture cause for eviction.
There's a lot more but we can save that for the updates.
I have no idea how they have such good reviews. Fear? They sure have tried to intimidate me.
Positives:
- Good Vybes Coffee is located in the building. They are new, please support them
- Humberto (maintenance team) is the absolute best. He's kind, honest and actually does what he says he's going to.
Responding to Link's response:
About half of these issues are still pending resolution and the ones that are solved, were predominantly solved because management pawned the responsibility off on me.
- My doctor sent them a letter asking for medical accommodations under state and federal fair housing acts. The accommodation? Decrease or remove artificial fragrances in areas that I must be in to get to my apartment. It is currently so strong that I can smell it under an N95 mask and it catches on my clothes.
- Did they turn down or off the fragrances blasting through the vents? No. They want to discuss with their attorney. I wonder if their attorney is also a Harvard and Stanford trained ENT like my doctor? Either way - making a conscious decision to cause medical harm to your tenants when all you have to do is reduce a fragrance no one asked for to begin with - well, that's what you'll get with this management team.
- Fobs still work inconsistently.
- District Manager who "invited" me to move out twice and then told me I could be evicted for disrespectful behavior has still not given me one example of how I have disrespected anyone in this building. I asked for this weeks ago, nothing, yet he keeps telling me I need to communicate respectfully.
Today I learned that these ^ tactics could be considered "constructive evictions." Sometimes that's legal, sometimes its not. If this happens to you, there are a lot of organizations (especially in Oakland) who will help you for free or on a sliding scale bases.
