Mira, I give one star because these walls are made of old tortillas. I am sitting in my kitchen, and I can hear my neighbor next door thinking.
But the real problem is the bathroom. It is like a 'Community Toilet' through the wall. I can hear my neighbor, El Tio, in there every morning. He is a very loud man. I hear the 'plop,' I hear the 'splash,' and then I hear him groaning and grunting like he is fighting a Brahma Bull in there! It sounds like a rodeo behind my mirror.
Last Tuesday, he sneezed while he was on the 'throne' and it was so loud I accidentally said 'Salud!' through the wall. He said 'Gracias, Quico!' back. We are too close, man. My kids think El Tío lives in our closet. If you want a house where you can have a conversation with a stranger while you are both on the toilet, move to The Shadows. Otherwise, run away!
Mira, management says they have an 'alternate solution.'
Does this mean the building is finally giving us noise-canceling sombreros? Or is El Tío getting a high-performance muffler for his morning 'rodeo' sessions? I’ll keep my ears open (not like I have a choice with these tortilla walls)!
been here for 10 months. pay like 3.5k. door next to me got through major renovation, for the past 8 months? monday thru friday, 9-5 pm, 5-6 guys working, loud, talking, drilling etc. 8 months man. they told me it’d be done 2 months ago, still going at it. they make 30 story buildings in china in a month..
the garbage truck will come at 8 am every week. you will wake up. the leaf blower dude will start blasting it at 8 am sharp.
you can literally hear the highway from inside. there are 2 huge car washes at the intersection which you can hear.
this place has 0 peace and quiet. it is LOUD.
We recently moved in and have been very happy so far. The move-in process was smooth, and we truly love our apartment. It’s spacious, nicely updated, and the location is a huge plus as my commute used to be 40 minutes, so being this close to work has made a big difference. We also really appreciate how quiet the community is; after a long day at the office, it’s the perfect place to unwind.
A big thank you to Indira for taking the time to show us several apartments over two different days. We’d happily recommend Shadows to anyone looking for a new home in Mountain View!

The Shadows is honestly quite the hidden gem in Mountain View! It is safe, peaceful, and surprisingly full of amenities. They have not only a hot tub, a pool, and beautiful walk space with flowers, but also an indoor and outdoor gym! The staff is very responsive to any questions or concerns, and they have a 24-hour emergency maintenance call number. They are also clearly doing a good job with property upkeep, as there is always some sort of improvement going on..... electric chargers coming soon.
I couldn't recommend here more- it really has become our home.
It’s no coincidence that a wave of glowing reviews has appeared all at once — they don’t reflect the reality tenants have described here. What matters most is how management responds to serious complaints: every reply follows the same formula — deny the problem, deflect responsibility, and distract with cosmetic projects. Package thefts and break-ins are brushed off as ‘police matters,’ noise and vandalism are dismissed as ‘urban living,’ lease renewal concerns are labeled ‘busy work,’ and reports of pests or mold are simply denied.
If you value peace and quiet — especially if you work remotely — do not live here. Construction noise has been constant the entire time I’ve lived at Shadows. It begins before 7 a.m. and continues nonstop until evening, day after day. Apartments are being reconstructed, tenants are constantly moving in and out, and even within your own walls you’ll hear loud, disruptive work. Management’s own “Noise Alert” email about the EV charger installation proves the point: they proudly announce new amenities while admitting to yet more construction noise, all while ignoring basic safety upgrades like cameras, lighting, and patrols.
Even worse, tenants who raise concerns face a pattern of suppression. In fact, it rises to the level of **harassment** when voices are silenced and legitimate complaints are met with intimidation instead of solutions. The sudden flood of positives cannot erase the consistent pattern in management’s replies: image over accountability, deflection over solutions. Prospective renters should read the critical reviews carefully — they reveal the truth far better than the polished posts.
