  I moved into Ocean’s Edge Apartments in Laguna Beach in September 2025 expecting a stable and livable residential environment. Shortly after moving in, I experienced a series of issues that significantly impacted my ability to occupy the unit. In October 2025, there was an initial flood event affecting the unit. On Christmas night, a second flood occurred, resulting in additional interior damage. At one point, organic growth was observed emerging from within a wall, raising concerns about moisture and overall habitability. As a result of these conditions, I was displaced from the unit for approximately one month. During this time, I not only had to secure temporary housing at my own expense, but I also had to remove and store a substantial portion of my belongings. Approximately 80% of my personal property was moved into a U-Haul trailer, which remained on-site for an extended period while repairs were being completed. This required effectively moving out of the unit, coordinating storage, and later moving everything back in once the unit was deemed livable again. In addition to the financial cost, this process involved significant time, effort, and disruption to normal daily living. Reimbursement for the temporary housing and related costs was not immediate and required follow-up through management and legal representatives before being addressed. Following the water damage, repair work began, involving removal of drywall, flooring, and insulation. This resulted in ongoing noise, dust, and disruption. Construction debris and disposal trailers remained on-site for extended periods during this time. During the repair period, there were repeated interactions with on-site workers related to parking and access, despite prior coordination with management. There were also instances where workers were positioned near windows and private areas of the unit, creating concerns regarding privacy. Dust and debris from ongoing work frequently affected the surrounding areas, requiring additional cleaning within my unit to maintain livable conditions. While these conditions were ongoing, I later discovered through public records that a new project had been initiated to convert a portion of the property into an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) directly beneath my unit. This project was initiated after the start of my lease and represents an additional phase of disruption moving forward. Taken together, these events represent a pattern of ongoing interference with normal residential use, rather than isolated incidents. When I attempted to discuss options for early lease termination due to these cumulative conditions, I was informed that standard lease break terms would still apply, including a two-month termination fee and repayment of a rent concession. This account reflects my direct experience so that others can better understand the conditions and ask appropriate questions before entering into a lease.
