They keep them on an endcap in the main aisle near enough to the main doors that you can feel cold winter wind rushing in by their cups. They like warm water, there’s no way their temperature was adequate. They’re kept in tiny cups with no plants, filters, heaters, oxygenates, etc. Many cups were very cloudy and dirty. Even other, local big boxes stores do better by increasing the tank size and adding plants or Indian almond leaves for health. This particular location’s fish looked more miserable than other locations. None of the cups were marked for adoption, either, which is something other locations do when their bettas aren’t thriving. The staff member on duty in charge of aquatic care saw me taking photos of them and looked ashamed. She made a sad face, put her head down, wouldn’t make eye contact, and left quickly to busy herself with other fish. Management needs to do better for their bettas. They’re “just fish,” but they’re living creatures that need basic husbandry and consideration. I will not be shopping with this location again for anything at all until their care has improved.

I attempted to at least get them exchanged and because I didn't get the receipt for them because they don't always just give it to you unless you request one after checking out they refused to make it right and do the right thing and just exchange them. Don't go to PetCo they are dishonest and sell dead worms. I will never shop there ever again
