My wife and I wanted to buy some tropical fish, we were attended by an amazing young man named Rod. His professionalism, kindness and knowledge was the best we have ever experienced! We were so happy with our visit. Rod just made our day! We will be coming back!

I truly hate writing negative reviews, but after two separate interactions with the manager at this Petco (Rebecca), I feel compelled to share my experience.
I’ve been going here for years for pet supplies and about a year and a half ago started grooming my pup here and I’ve always had positive experiences with the store and staff—until this situation.
At Cooper’s (my dog) last appointment, I dropped him off for a bath and added a haircut. Shortly after, I received a call that I unfortunately missed. The voicemail stated they believed Cooper had a large hotspot on his shoulder and could not complete services until it healed. When I called back, Rebecca made me feel genuinely awful for missing the spot on his shoulder (without actually saying i was awful obviously). I already felt sick to my stomach and like a terrible pet mom, and her tone only amplified that feeling. Walking in felt like i was doing the “walk of shame.”
When she showed me the spot, I immediately apologized multiple times and told her how horrible I felt for not noticing it sooner. After that, her demeanor suddenly changed, and she offered me a free service (either a bath or haircut—I honestly don’t remember which) once Cooper was treated and healed.
We did take Cooper to the vet, and it turned out to be a large gash caused by bushes in our backyard. Unfortunately, before we figured out the cause, he re injured himself with the same thing two more times, which delayed me getting him back in to Petco.
A couple of months later, knowing it was a long shot, I called the store just to ask if that offer might still be available. I made it very clear from the beginning that I fully understood if it wasn’t and that I planned on booking a grooming appointment regardless.
The store associate who answered ended up giving the call to Rebecca who answered the phone with a defensive tone right away (“So what’s your question?”). I explained the situation again, and she immediately said those offers typically only last a week. I clarified that I was under the impression I had to wait until Cooper healed, but again reassured her that I completely understood if the offer was no longer valid.
She then asked me to re-explain what happened and why I was offered anything. When I did, she responded with an attitude, stating that the bath had been completed and only the haircut wasn’t—making me feel foolish for even asking. At no point was I arguing or demanding anything; I simply wanted clarification. Instead, I was made to feel like I was begging for free handouts, which was embarrassing and unnecessary.
When I finally said I understood, she abruptly asked what day I wanted to book. I told her I’d book online. As a final dismissive remark, she added, “Oh, and just so you know, his rabies is overdue since November.” Cooper does have a current rabies vaccine—we just hadn’t been back since he received it—but it felt like she was just trying to have the last word.
After hanging up, I felt embarrassed, upset, and honestly shocked. There were so many opportunities for this interaction to be handled with basic kindness and professionalism, and instead, I walked away feeling small and uncomfortable—twice.
The store itself is great, and every other staff member I’ve interacted with over the years has been wonderful. This review is solely about the way these situations were handled by management. As a manager—and as a human—there was a much better way to communicate.
