They won't let you cancel your subscription if your pet dies! You will keep getting a monthly charge to remind you of of your painful loss. Do they need to? No. Do they care? No. Straight up evil. After 9 great years I had to put my cat down earlier this month; she was the sweetest cat I'd ever owned. Obviously I was heartbroken. The staff at Banfield were wonderful throughout the death process. This 1 star review is for the corporate ownership who clearly only care about the bottom line and not a grieving pet owner. I had been on the Wellness + plan for years as my cat needed occasional dental work, which just renewed in November. When I contacted Banfield to cancel the policy after my cat died, they told me I needed to pay the remaining 9 months of the Wellness Plan, despite the fact that my cat is no longer alive to be seen and treated. I was flabbergasted - their reasoning was because I had used the plan benefits (procedure discounts, office visits) for 3 months, so I needed to pay the full plan amount. I obviously wouldn't have signed up for the full year if I knew my cat was going to die so soon. To top it off, my cat was too sick to receive any dental care so I never used the "Plus" part of my plan. I asked if they would at least lower the regular Wellness plan but apparently their "system doesn't allow that". I feel taken advantage of in a time of grief. When your pet dies, it feels evil to keep charging grieving owners for services they obviously won't be using. Now I'll get a painful reminder of my loss every month when I see the monthly Wellness charge hit my credit card. I understand this is a business and cancelling a plan would normally require paying the full year, but the death of a pet feels like this should be an obvious exception. I'm leaving my multi-year experience with Banfield with a very sour taste and I do not recommend anyone give their money to this company; it's clear they will do anything they can to suck more money from you before you go.

We took our dog in on 12/15 — the vet that had seen him assured it wasn’t IVDD or a hip issue, that he “just tweaked his back” and should be on crate-rest for the next 5 days. Around 4:15PM that same day, I get a call from the vet and she mentions that she’s calling me, “so we can both sleep tonight” (her literal words, basically clearing her conscious) and to tell me that the shot of Rimadyl they injected my Frenchie with wasn’t stored properly so on top of his back issues, he could have other complications with his liver. We ended up taking him back in on 12/16 as his symptoms were getting worse only to be called shortly after and be told that they think it’s IVDD and that he needs to go to the ER immediately. The tech who handed him off to us as we picked him up was so careless and rude — he was in way worse condition than we dropped him off and when we had asked for more information she rolled her eyes and said that they gave him pain meds and walked away. We ended up having to put our dog down 12/20 as he lost all mobility in his hind legs that Tuesday and after all has been said and done, every single vet/specialist we’d seen after said that this vet should’ve directed us to the ER for an MRI the very first time she saw him since it was a concern with his back/spine. I should’ve known better to take him to another location as we tried to do his teeth cleaning here back in the fall and they called us to say he was aggressive and wouldn’t do it — mind you he had NEVER had any issues with any other previous office and was able to get it done in Woodinville with no problems from their team. The best part in all of this was that we were still charged for the Rimadyl injection that wasn’t stored properly and his Optimum Wellness Plan until April. I understand now there’s a 12-month commitment but it’s completely heartless and shows zero empathy or compassion from Banfield. What confirms this is that every other hospital/office/clinic (Blue Pearl, Gig Harbor Animal Clinic, Animal Wellness & Rehab Center) we went to has sent has a card after the loss of our dog, except for them. Thanks for confirming you’re literally in the business for the money and only that.
