I wish I could give NO STARS!! Do not bring your pet to Banfield Pet Hospital in Stafford, VA.
This is the second time I’ve dropped my dog off for a scheduled procedure and he stayed there the entire day, only for the procedure not to be done. He sat in a kennel all day and couldn’t have food because anesthesia was required. Leaving a dog already in distress in that condition all day with nothing to show for it is unacceptable.
The communication at this location is extremely poor. The same excuses are reused every time something like this happens, which shows this is an ongoing issue, not a one-time emergency. I even missed a full day of work for an appointment that never happened.
A doctor at the front counter spoke about me on the phone, within earshot of other clients, and made an extremely unprofessional remark. The staff member who identified herself as “Mika” had an attitude that came across as dismissive, cold, and disrespectful. There was no empathy, no apology, and no attempt to de-escalate the situation. Instead, she argued and repeatedly interrupted while I was trying to speak with another staff member who was attempting to help. I honestly do know how Mika still has a job!!
From both a medical care and professionalism standpoint, this experience was unacceptable. My dog went through a full day of stress and fasting for a procedure that never happened, and I was treated with a lack of respect in front of other clients. I will not be returning. I hope management addresses the serious communication failures and how clients are treated at this location!

So we had a snow storm and some ice. I went on line to see if petsMart/Banfield was open, no information. Allowed me to make 2 appointments, confirmed all good. This was Monday after the storm. I tried to get there but was late so rebooked a later appointment. Arrived, streets mostly clear, parking lot mostly clear. Brought my cat to the door, all lights are on, outside door locked inner open. Rang the bell several times nothing. Went back with my pet to my truck. I called, and called, and called called both PetsMart and Banfield... No message that they were closed, open late due to weather nothing at all. Online still allows for appointments. As overpriced as pet services/supplies are you would expect some professionalism and respect to keep their web page, phone service, current and accurate. If you decide to not open for whatever reason, let the clients know maybe put a sign on the front door? I know they do not care but I am done with PetsMart/Banfield. They obviously make enough money off of the other clients that overpay for supplies and pet services. And not effected by online options. Maybe time for this company to close more stores?
The staff has always been very attentive and kind even when there’s an overwhelming number of customers requiring assistance, in such a small area. Whether it’s via phone for drop-offs or in person for sit and stay, they always communicate the details of appointments and are willing to answer questions. I’ve never felt rushed or ignored when obtaining care my mini poodle. I’ve only taken him to one other Banfield location and he received the same, high level of care and attention. The other location was less busy than our usual Stafford location, but again, both were equally attentive.
****The following review is a correspondence sent to corporate about my experience at the Stafford, VA Banfield. The matter has been resolved by corporate; However, I will never visit this location again****
I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with a recent experience at one of your locations, which has left me feeling frustrated and disappointed. I believe it is important to bring this matter to your attention to seek a resolution to improve future interactions for other clients.
Today, I dropped off my pet, KK, for a comprehensive exam. I explicitly communicated my intention to avoid any additional payments outside of her wellness plan. We agreed only to receive an estimate for a mass removal. However, during the course of the day, the doctor contacted my husband, who agreed to the given price, but specified that we were not prepared to proceed with the procedure at this time. Despite this, a non-life threatening procedure was completed without our verbal confirmation.
When my husband called back to address this issue, he was repeatedly instructed to come in to listen to a recording of the telephone conversation. However, when I visited the location, two hours later, the recording could not be provided. Furthermore, the front desk staff openly discussed our situation in front of other customers, suggesting that our family had “attempted this scam” at another location. To be clear, this has been our primary Banfield for all of our pets since 2005. She also claimed that I had signed paperwork consenting to the procedure, yet failed to provide evidence for either claim. Additionally, she later mentioned, again publicly, that my wellness plan had gone into collections, which was both embarrassing, inaccurate, and inappropriate.
I did meet with the Practice Manager, who confirmed the miscommunication and offered an apology but was unable to adjust the payment. While she agreed to keep the ticket open for a future payment of $257, this resolution does not seem justifiable, given our clear intention to not incur out-of-pocket expenses at this time.
I am deeply displeased with the way this situation was handled and insist on some form of reimbursement or consolidation. This experience has not only been distressing but has also undermined my trust in the services provided by Banfield.
The vets here are great, but here are the reasons I’m finding another practice. Dropping my pet off at 8/8:30 am and not being able to pick up until 8-9 hours later is really bad. But the worst part is negative lab work is not given to the vet or owner unless they ask the people that are checking in pets, according to those staff . Not good. Also, I had to ask for the vet notes because my pet insurance won’t process any claims from Banfield due to the lacking medical summaries and vet notes Banfield provides. These are huge concerns for me.
