I rarely leave reviews, but this experience with Petco was too disappointing to ignore.
I dropped my dog off for a scheduled grooming appointment expecting a noticeable difference when I picked her up. Instead, she looked exactly the same as when I left her. There was no visible grooming work done at all.
When I asked what services were completed, I was told she received a bath and had her nails clipped. Based on her appearance, it honestly didn’t seem like anything had been done.
Beyond the lack of results, the customer experience made things worse. There was no real explanation, no effort to address my concerns, and no attempt to make it right. It felt dismissive and unprofessional.
This was one of the worst service experiences I’ve had. I won’t be bringing my dog back here again.

** EDIT ** I’d like to add that since posting this review I have spoken to Rebecca the manager at the carytown store and she has been amazing with her customer service, insight, and kind words. So much so that I will gladly give the spider selection at that location a chance and add a couple stars back. Thank you!!***
If you’re a small animal owner, please get your pets from another store. I debated leaving a review but I am still fuming over my experience in this store yesterday. I’m no tarantula EXPERT, but by GOD neither are their “experts”. I ALWAYS buy my tarantulas from Fin and Feather because of their expansive knowledge in the 8 legged friends, but they havent gotten stock in a while so AGAINST EVERY FIBER OF MY BETTER JUDGEMENT, I went to purchase one of petcos SEVERELY over priced Red Knees. As a tarantula keeper, I already have my enclosure, substrate, crickets etc.. I researched the red knee before even going to the store to make sure I had the proper set up for him, considering I have a wide range of spiders who need a wide range of care.
When I asked for the red knee, their “spider expert” was basically not going to come off of the spider without me ALSO purchasing a 10gallon tank. Okay cool, I’m no stranger to homing tarantulas in tanks, I keep my red rump in a 5gallon because he’s mature, he’s a burrower. So I’m like dang, at his size in that big of a tank he’s going to need what? Like over a foot of substrate? YALL LOSTTTTTT A CUSTOMER FOR LIFE when your “expert” told me that that spider would only need a sprinkle of substrate around the base. Massive tank, no proper knowledge on enclosure care. Red knees are a terrestrial species who also like to climb. If I had no clue what I was doing, and purchased that spider as advised, it would had been setting it up for HARM considering tarantulas can’t handle falls from that height. You guys have GOT to do better in getting people in that know care for the exotic pets yall sell. You’re already robbing people price wise on common spiders, now at this point I just feel bad for that red knee and whoever decides to purchase it from you guys that doesn’t know a thing or two about a thing or two. Anyway, if yall are looking for reptiles, spiders, invertebrates… Please stick to the smaller pet shops that have people working there who are passionate about the animals and care of said animals, that they sell. Petco yall cared so bad the wrong way that you not only lost a sale, I’ll never shut up about how you told me a terrestrial species only needs a couple inches of substrate. Do better please thank you. Pic of my happy cared for babies that would had loved a new friend, but I just can’t support a store that holds spiders hostage, but can’t even explain proper care as to why. Ps THATS what substrate in a 5/10 gallon tank is supposed to look like for a red knee, THANKS. <3
PSPS, since we now know yall can’t care for your spiders properly, YOUR GOLIATH BIRD EATER THAT YOU HAVE ON THE SALE FLOOR is in heavy premolt and probably shouldn’t even be for sale right now, let alone constantly stressed out on the brightly lit sale floor for every child to tap on when it walks by since we care about SPIDER SAFETY SO BAD. *eyeroll*

I brought my dog in for a quick vaccination visit so she could be cleared for a nail trim (I’m currently unable to do it myself due to a wrist injury). Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from start to finish.
When I arrived, there was no one at the front desk. An employee made eye contact with me and then ignored me. I had to go find someone myself, and when I did, I was told to stand and wait without any clear direction or acknowledgment.
There was also no prior communication about required documents in any email or appointment instructions. While I understand I could have brought records proactively, the way this was addressed felt unnecessarily rude and dismissive.
More concerning was the interaction with the staff member who commented on my dog not being spayed. I was told, very bluntly, that my dog “will get cancer.” Regardless of medical opinions, that is not an appropriate or professional way to communicate with a pet owner.
At the vaccination area, multiple staff members were on their phones and not engaged. It wasn’t until I made a comment when I was acknowledged.
My dog is friendly and easy to handle, but the overall experience felt rushed, impersonal, and dismissive toward me as a client. I get it was 5pm on a friday but sheesh.
I will not be returning and would not recommend this location based on the lack of professionalism and basic customer care.
