- AAAngie Anderson2 days ago1.0When checking in for my grooming appointment for my two dogs, nowhere in the process did it state that dogs could not be given any type of sedative before grooming. One of my dogs had recently been to the vet, and due to his extreme anxiety, the vet prescribed a mild sedative specifically to help him get through the grooming appointment. Dutch Shepherds are naturally high‑energy, and my German Shepherd gets nervous at even the smallest triggers, so this felt like a responsible and necessary step. To arrive at the appointment and be told that they could not groom my dogs because they were given something to calm their nerves was extremely disappointing. This policy should have been clearly stated during the check‑in process before the appointment was confirmed—not after arriving. I also asked whether they could muzzle the dog if needed, and the groomer said no. However, I was then told that “next time you book an appointment, you should try the calming gummies we sell.” That seems contradictory—if the issue is simply that a dog has been given something to relax them, how would the gummies be acceptable but the vet‑prescribed medication not? In the end, the dogs were not groomed at all, and the entire experience felt avoidable with clearer communication upfront. I strongly recommend updating the check‑in or booking process to include this important restriction so pet owners can plan appropriately.
