My diabetic dog recently showed signs of unstable glucose level. For the first appointment, I was charged about $90 for nothing but a recommendation to make another appointment for blood lab, urine analysis and glucose curve. At the 2nd appointment, I was estimated to pay close to $900 for the work mentioned above, or pay a discounted price with an additional purchase of a care plan. So we bought a care plan, but not sure if it's good choice. At the end of the day I when I picked up my dog at the time I was told, I had to wait quite a while to receive my dog and another long wait to meet the vet. I noticed that he had an injured and bleeding nose. But these are not the key issues for my review. As soon as my dog arrived home, he immediately went to his water bowl without letting me unleash him. This is unusual. He was so thirsty that he kept drinking and drinking without stop. I was really scared and had to stop him three times to let him slow down. Still in a very short time, he drank more water than he normally drinks in a whole day. I don't know for how long he had been deprived from water. The next day when I was administering insulin for my dog, I surprisedly saw the needle still attached to the insulin pen, which let insulin drip out and air flow in. MOST IMPORTANTLY, I figured that my dog didn't actually receive any insulin on the day when the "glucose curve" was created. That's why his glucose level was extremely high through the whole day. I was on vacation the week right before the 2nd appointment. During this week, my dog's caretaker used syringes to draw insulin from the insulin pen before administering it. She did this way to make sure a precise amount of insulin was administered. This however created a gap in the insulin pen, so next time when insulin is administered from the pen directly, it won't push out any insulin through the needle. However, the gap in the insulin pen is very obvious and easy to be seen. One can also feel the difference when trying to push the insulin pen for administration. The insulin curve is meaningless, but my poor dog suffered, and I was charged more than $320 for the "services" of insulin curve, supervision, team care and ward fee, plus fees for other items. I wonder if people in this facility have any experience in administering insulin to create glucose curves.

I've been taking my elder cat here for over a year, and both Vets have been personable and knowledgeable. Love the front desk staff and the Vet Techs - I swear everytime I see them, they're covered in my kitty's fur from giving him love. And most importantly - during a very scary medical emergency for my kitty, they A) caught the problem as it started, B) provided me appropriate care options immediately and C) supported his recovery completely. I really couldn't have asked for more. The pricing is the same as any other Banfield location. The staff, on the other hand, are excellent.

I do not recommend the Fox Mill location in Reston,VA. I changed locations because it had better reviews but I've had way too many issues:Appointments being changed without proper communication and then, once there, telling me I'm later because they decided to move my appointment to earlier without my consent. They missed her rabies vaccines (one of the most important ones) although she was in for a comprehensive exam weeks before and didn't mention any upcoming vaccines. I learned it expired, because a new grooming place requested it and when I went to check her chart, it had expired. They have taken days, sometimes weeks to refill prescriptions. They have switched vets often and I have to redo tests and explain my dog’s meds ad if she hasn't been in them for over 10 years. The list goes on. The problem is that there is not accountability. I will be looking to change locations.
