- AFAmy FriedlanderFeb 6, 20231.0Honestly, I have lived all over the country, and Banfield Pet Hospital is the most fee-gouging, shadiest vet service I have encountered, anywhere. The customer service reps are friendly, the vets themselves prob are too, but they will over-charge you for every single service, and require you to bring your pets to them multiple times per year while charging a $75 office fee each visit, for each pet. A great example of this is the 6-month Bortedella vaccine. I had always gotten both my dogs the 1-year vaccine, because I don't board them and really don't need it every six months. In 2022, Banfield gave both my dogs, out of the blue, the 6-month shot, requiring me to bring each of them back for additional shots that same year, for an additional $75 office visit, for each dog. The craziest story though - I needed a copy of rabies certificate to travel internationally with one of my dogs, and Banfield had updated my dogs rabies in early 2022. I did not receive the rabies certificate, so I made an appointment to pick it up - I am not kidding you, a vet did not even see my dog, yet Banfield charged me a $75 office visit fee. Couldn't email me the certificate, couldnt let me just pick it up. Sat me in a room, printed the certificate, brought it to the room, and charged me $75. Absolutely insane. Unless you like to waste money, I highly recommend staying away from Banfield. There are more reputable vets that don't gouge your eyeballs out in fees all over the DC area. I have found one in DC that I am quite happy with.

Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
