I would give them zero stars if I could.
I am on Banfield’s Optimum Wellness Active Special Care plan (the most expensive plan for cats at $90/month), and Dr. Bellinger’s team still tried to charge me $295 out of pocket for bloodwork and a urinalysis that are already included in my plan. The vet tech’s reasoning was that because I booked an “illness” appointment instead of a “comprehensive” one, they couldn’t apply my plan benefits. Nowhere in the Banfield plan does it say bloodwork, x-rays, or urinalysis are limited to comprehensive visits.
On top of that, they tried to claim I had booked a drop-off instead of an in-room visit, but when they checked the computer, I was right about it being an in-room visit. The vet tech also tried to tell me that because I didn’t bring in a urine sample, they couldn’t use the covered urinalysis and I would have to pay out of pocket. This is unacceptable, especially since they’ve previously taken a urine sample during my cat’s dental anesthesia (without even asking first) and didn’t charge me since they said it was already included in my plan.
Dr. Bellinger herself rushed me, urging me to go to urgent care because she said my cat’s bladder was “too firm” and he wouldn’t urinate for them. As soon as I got home, he used his litter box immediately. She didn’t even attempt diagnostics like a urine test or x-rays to confirm whether there was a blockage—tests urgent care would have run anyway. She also spoke with a Blue Pearl Vet surgeon who said surgery likely wouldn’t be necessary, so sending me away without proper diagnostics felt careless.
They were also running behind despite my 8:30am appointment, rushed me through my visit, and forgot to give me a refill of my cat’s gabapentin. For a clinic I’m paying nearly $90/month to for “special care,” they’re basically scamming me.
In summary: I’m paying for the highest tier Banfield plan and they still tried to charge me for covered services, rushed me out without running diagnostics, and gave poor communication. If you want quality and patience, see Dr. Johnson at the Great Bridge Banfield—she takes her time, explains thoroughly, and provides the care you’d actually expect. I would trust her over Dr. Bellinger any day.

Everyone is always so pleasant and caring. My last visit Chase was only his 2nd visit and both times he got shots, so now he knows, and not so happy about coming to the door😃

I just want to say that anytime you have to drop a pet off for any type of visit and leave them you should be weary. I made an appointment for a sick visit and when I booked the appointment on the app it was an in person visit. I arrive after driving almost an hour. They tell me I have to leave her and they will call me in a few hours. This is NOT okay. The staff was very friendly and kind but to make you leave your fur baby and not have anyone to advocate for them and charge your 1700.00 and to not even give you the correct diagnosis is ridiculous. My sweet baby died 12 days later. I missed out on the opportunity to spoil her let her have food and snacks she would never be able to have. I missed out on making her as comfortable as possible. This practice is unacceptable I will NEVER return or have my fur babies treated here again. They also still charge you for any months left on a wellness plan. They are more concerned about a profit then the health and wellbeing of your pets.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
