Don’t waste your time. I scheduled an appointment online and was told the doctor was on lunch at my scheduled time and I would have to leave my cat and come pick him up later if I wanted him to be seen for a minor, quick procedure. I requested anal gland expression. They gave a poor excuse about why the system even allowed me to schedule an appointment on the vets lunch break which didn’t make sense. They did offer to reschedule my appointment to the following day which I agreed to. Then when I go to the front desk before leaving to confirm my appointment had been rescheduled the receptionist doesn’t see it and then tries to charge me for a full examination despite me telling her nothing was done and my appt had been rescheduled... Mind you my cat had nothing done to him, no one even touched him, he was never even removed from his carrier. Clearly the staff does not communicate effectively which each other as it would have been very simple for them to accompany me to the desk to check out and tell the receptionist nothing had been done and my appt was rescheduled. All around a terrible experience for really no good reason. Most of my issues could have been easily avoided with better communication/scheduling.

During my dog’s dental cleaning, the staff inquired if I would like them to trim her nails. I concurred, understanding that dogs are typically sedated during dental procedures, and it’s the best time for a nail trimming. Unfortunately, they performed the nail trimming on my dog causing her to bleed. While I am aware that this can occur and that appropriate treatment is available, the staff did not provide any assistance when I informed them of the situation over the phone. They merely gave me some instructions, but they did not acknowledge the severity of the injury they caused to my dog. As a result, I am no longer comfortable having my dog handled by that particular staff member. This type of negligence is unacceptable. They were aware of my dogs injury that they caused that led her to bleed from her nail they did not treat it and did not inform me of the injury they caused. When I spoke to the manager at the location, she said that they cannot treat my dogs to the satisfaction that I want. I was not asking them to take my dogs to dinner in a movie. I was simply asking them to not cause any harm to my dog, the manager Implied that that was too much to ask.

If I could give zero stars, I would. The customer service at this place is beyond unacceptable (especially the receptionist that works on Fridays). I walked in hoping for a simple, respectful experience, and instead was met with rude, dismissive, and downright unprofessional behavior. The staff acted like I was a burden from the moment I walked in — no greeting, no smile, just attitude. When I asked a basic question, I was met with eye-rolls and snarky comments, like I was stupid for not already knowing. I don’t know who trains the staff here, but basic decency and courtesy are clearly not part of the process. Instead of helping me resolve an issue, they were confrontational and unwilling to listen. I left feeling disrespected, frustrated, and shocked that this place is still in business. There are plenty of other businesses that know how to treat people with respect — this one clearly does not. Avoid this place at all costs. They’ve lost my business permanently.

They always wanted me to drop my pet off for every appointment, even well visits that should only take 20-30 mins. They could never tell me when he should be ready to be picked up ( would it be 2 hours, 7 hours, who knows!) so basically I have to clear my whole day to wait around for a phone call? The most recent time he ended up having to sit in a crate for 5 hours for a simple well visit. I’m assuming this is some sort of efficiency model in order to make Banfield corporate more money. If the people who worked here actually cared about animals, they would not make them sit in a kennel all day for no reason. How hard is it to schedule an appointment and provide care during that time? I guess it’s hard if all you care about is profits. They are also constantly trying to upsell you, even if you have their wellness plan. I’ll be canceling my wellness plan and taking my business elsewhere.

I am writing this review to document an extremely upsetting and discriminatory experience I had at a Banfield Pet Hospital location, involving a practice manager whose conduct was not only unprofessional but also shockingly racist. I originally scheduled an appointment for my pet through Banfield’s online booking system. However, the appointment was canceled without explanation, and I was contacted by the location and told I needed to reschedule. Although this was an inconvenience, I complied and rescheduled the appointment as requested. They also tried to reschedule the same appointment they HAD ME RESCHEDULE FOR! So quite naturally that was concerning so I attempted to talk the receptionist including the practice manager, in Spanish—my first language. To my disbelief, the manager explicitly told me that I could not speak Spanish to her, she was also Spanish speaking. I want to emphasize that I am a native Spanish speaker and have every right to communicate in my language, especially when I am the client seeking a paid service. Being told I could not speak Spanish is not just unprofessional—it is outright discriminatory and racist. No one should be denied service or treated differently because of the language they speak or their ethnic background. The manager's attitude was dismissive and degrading, and I was ultimately denied service due to this prejudice. I am deeply disturbed by this experience and will not let it go unchallenged. I am currently in the process of filing a civil complaint against this Banfield location with the Attorney General of Virginia for discriminatory business practices. I will also be submitting a formal complaint to Banfield’s corporate office and the Better Business Bureau (BBB). To be clear: refusing service based on language is discriminatory and violates both federal and state civil rights protections. It is illegal, unethical, and unacceptable. As a long-time pet owner and member of this community, I am shocked that a company like Banfield would allow such behavior from its management staff. I urge Banfield to investigate this incident immediately, take corrective action against the employee in question, and ensure that their policies and staff are trained in non-discriminatory, inclusive practices. No one should be made to feel unwelcome, unworthy, or voiceless because of their language. I will continue to pursue this issue through all appropriate legal and administrative channels until accountability is achieved.
