If I can give 0 stars I would.
I took my dog to get groomed and some how the grommer pealed my dogs tail off to the bone!!! My dog needed to get an amputation of his tail. The grommer apologize but didnt know how it happened. Not to mention when I was called about the situation they said my dog wasnt bleeding and it wasnt serious. I get to the vet and they showed me pictures of the bones in his tail everything else was gone and there was blood! The vet said the only way to fix it is to amputate the exposed part of the tail. This was ridiculous I take my dog to get a bath and a trim and little did I know they were going to trim his actual tail off. đĄđĄđĄ and to top it off they said i have to return in 14 days and I will have to pay for the removal of the stitches when this would've never happend if I didnt take my dog to the grommers. I asked for an incident report and they said the manager was busy. Unable to provide one.
Pictures show the before and after of his tail. My poor baby will officially hate the grommers.
Not once did the manager even bother to talk to me. The vet and his assistant did all the work for her/him. They even said this should've never happend. Do not go to this grommers. They will hurt your dog.

The associate was very rude when I was asking for some assistance. Wanted some advice to consider but because it was almost close they shut me down and told me no. Came in the next morning and got a great setup and beautiful snake. Staff was much more friendly.

Very disappointed!!
We have taken our 16 year-old Dexter to Sugar House Petco for his entire life so 16 years. I want to stress it, 16 years. He has only been groomed at this Petco.
This ended today.
My husband had made an appointment and when he showed up at the store yesterday, he mentioned that he had had his Gabapentin (arthritis medication) in the morning. We were not going to hide the medication he takes. We are honest people. âAtaviaâ, your groomer was kind and upbeat but quickly said âwe cannot groom him if heâs on Gabapentin because it causes sedation.â
I did reply âthat he has been seen before many times while on that low dosage med and it was never an issueâ which he replied âas our interaction is being recorded and you said heâs on that med I have to refuse him. You can bring a doctors note.â
That was helpful! I promised to bring him back with a doctors note and make sure he did not take the medication for at least 12 hours like Atavia recommended. I did ask for a call back from the manager.
That evening as we didnât hear back from the manager, my husband called and the manager answered. He went over everything and she said âthe notes say your dogâs face is also very matted so we canât groom him.â He pushed back and said âhe wasnât any more matted than other times and that was never an issue and I offered to cut any matted hair from his face myself which I didâ. I asked if I could bring him so she could see him and evaluate and she said âbring him tomorrow at 6pm.â
As I wanted my dog groomed as soon as possible, I called another Petco and talked to your Midvale store and made an appointment for today. The groomer called me today to make sure I brought his rabies record and mentioned that âthe notes from the other store said my dog was very matted.â
I told her the whole story and that I felt that Sugarhouse Petco was honestly refusing my dog because he was old, and they didnât want to deal with it and that I was not happy with it. Our conversion was cordial. I hope you can listen to the recording.
My husband got a call now from Midvale Petcoâs grooming manager Kathleen and she said she reviewed the notes, talked to Sugarhouse Petco and her groomer and they are not comfortable accepting my dog.
They are refusing my dog because I complained. It is mind blowing.
I said âjust to be clear, my dog has no matting on his face because I cut it, he has not taken his medication today and I also did get a note from the vet and you are still refusing him?â
She said, âwe are refusing him because of you. Also because he is 16.â
My husband is a U.S. citizen and does have an accent as he was born overseas. He told her that there may be a cultural barrier and that he did not in any way distract them or mean to be rude but he did share his complaint about the other store which he assumed they are trained to handle not to then refuse service.
DEXTER HAS BEEN DENIED SERVICE AFTER 16 YEARS OF LOYALTY.
I hope you address this and watch your cameras and listen to his phone calls.
Thank you. đ

Donât come to this Vetco hospital!!! I took my dog in for a bladder surgery 2 days ago in good condition btw and came out of there with a cardiac arrest before they even did anything on her! Leaving her in a vegetable state where she cannot function like a normal dog would- is how I saw her when they called me to pick her up and saying she is fine to go home as is! Mind you, they said I can pick her up at 5:30- at the time of closing KNOWING she is in this state and when I got there I was reached out to a âoh, youâre early!â. Anyone with eyes can see my dog is not fine at all and do not understand why they said to wait till 5:30. They did not even give her an oxygen tube and left her in a cage till the time to be picked up. I had to take my dog to the ER(MedVet) and was told she possibly has brain damage due to whatever they did at petco. I got a call from petcoâs director Toni who literally acted as if he cared while fake crying while telling me they have overextended their âcourtesyâ of aiding my dog with a day finance at the ER. Once I told him that Iâll consider my options, his tone changed and basically directed to make it sound as if my only option was to put my dog down due to insufficient funds and that petco has reached their courtesy for my dog. MedVetâs doctors were very professional as I was told when they called Toni, he got angry that he wasnât referred to as âDr. Tonyâ which made his call with me his way of covering whatever was done to my dog and complete ridiculous that petco allows a guy who gets upset for not being addressed as âDRâ. MedVet has helped me with covering costs of the unfortunate euthanasia and other things to it. If this doesnât reach out, I do have recordings and witnesses of the calls from both sides of mines and MedVetâs side. The biggest red flag in all this was being called by petco(Scott McMullin- their doctor that was to perform my dogâs surgery) saying my dog is fine and can take home while sheâs screaming and left with brain damage. MedVet has explained to me how her procedure shouldâve went and now looking back to this- they didnât do what MedVet described to me. I attached a photo of my dog and the state she was left in before I had to put her down when all she went for was bladder stone removal. Be aware of taking your pets to vetco. Very unprofessional of it all, especially the director Toni. And before they comment on her saying she might have had issues before coming into her surgery? No, she didnât have any issues as we took her in with them a week BEFORE surgery for a wellness checkup and with proof/documents stating she was fine. If you truly love your pets, you will consider and value your baby before reaching out to this vetco. I have videos of my dog that will be shown of how she was too before I dropped her off. This will be shown to social medias to ensure others to avoid them. Down below I have two pics of what she looked like before I took her to this place and before she passed.
