I have been going to Banfield for 7 years and have always had the best experience! Dr. Barlow and Dr. Read are amazing at what they do and take such care of my cat. The staff greets you with a smile and kindness which is appreciated.

I recently visited this location with my 8yr old female Labrador Retriever due to a large lump on one of her breasts. My partner and I knew it was likely cancerous due to the mass of the lump. She also was struggling to jump on our bed suddenly and we wanted to get that checked as well. When we arrived we were greeted with very kind, polite, and respectful receptionists. The nurses were also very friendly. My dog and I were taken into a room and discussed the issues we were having with a nurse. She let me know I could leave my dog there to be examined and the doctor would call me with their diagnosis of the exam. I then left and approximately 30 min later I received a phone call from the doctor, Dr. Marrin. He said she was ready and that they didn’t notice any physical issues when checking her for joint issues. I then had to ask about her lump rather than him telling me. He then blankly said “Yeah it’s cancer.” I then had to pry and say “Okay?? So will she need surgery?” His response, “Yeah.” Again I had to pry “How much will that cost?” He then in a flustered tone said, “I don’t know, I’ll have them write up an estimate.” That was the end of the phone call. I was baffled that he just told me that kind of earth shattering news over the phone in such a cold way. As I drove to pick up my dog I thought of more questions that I shouldn’t have to ask like, “how bad is it?” “what kind of cancer is it?” “what happens now??” “is my dog gonna die???” When I arrived I informed the receptionist that the doctor told me she had cancer and I would like more details and the estimate for the surgery. The receptionist and nurse standing nearby looked shocked because the doctor hadn’t spoken to them about the matter at all. They had to physically bring him out to me and I had to ask all of the questions I could think of (how am I supposed to know what to ask?). I asked if I needed to get my dog spayed and he said “There’s not really a point.” Come to find out from another vet at Animal Care in Clearfield (highly recommend btw) that the point of spaying her now would be to prevent cancer from coming back. While answering my questions he seemed to huff and puff like he didn’t want to be there and didn’t care about the gravity of the situation. I felt extremely uncomfortable even considering this man to do surgery on my dog. We sought out a second opinion with Animal Care in Clearfield. They offered to remove the tumor, do a biopsy, and spay her for almost $700 less than Banfield who estimated for only tumor removal and biopsy. I loved the staff here but if you want a vet that cares, do not go here.

I wish I could put 0 stars! THIS VET IS NEGLIGENT!! If you want to actually know how your dog is doing, DO NOT BRING THEM HERE! We brought our GSP to these doctors back when they were at Petsmart and now they’re at a nice new location. The day we brought our dog was for a routine exam, we had shared our concerns and expressed she wasn’t eating very well and they gave her her shots and let us know her stool test were fine. Fast forward to a couple days later, our dog has explosive diarrhea, won’t eat, can’t pee and she’s got a kidney infection, and neurological impairment. Fast forward a couple more days, she’s receiving around the clock care at a local vet (because we’re from ID and drive to Layton because it was the closest Banfield). On Friday morning our dog passed before we could receive results from a test that would later confirm she had Addison’s disease which would have been highly treatable if caught sooner. We had never heard of any concerns the doctors had as they had told us her levels were all normal. After reviewing her lab from her first visit there she had low Eosinophils and other levels were low. A normal dog is supposed to be anywhere from 1-18% and she was at 0.1%. Having these low levels indicates that her white blood cells were attacking her adrenal glands. Our dog has been dealing with this since August of 2023 and we trusted this vet to give us the information because we’re not doctors and it would have helped us to get her the care she needed. Now our dog is dead and when we called the office to ask for information they were unsure of the types of vaccines provided and told us to just go check the website for her information. Not that they were sorry to hear she was in another dog hospital, not that they cared that she was sick. Now we don’t have our dog and spent thousands of dollars trying to get her the best care in hopes of recovery. If you bring your dog here, be careful and seek information. You don’t know if they’ll neglect to tell you something which can lead to you no longer being able to come home to your loved one ever again.

I'm sick of paying near $150 a month for my pets to be covered by Banfield just to not be able to get my pets an appointment in a reasonable time frame despite that they have opened a 2nd Banfield Hospital down the street in Layton today! Both locations are closed (according to the voice recording over the phone) even on the Grand Opening of the 2nd location! I can't wait until my pets plan ends with Banfield.
