We can always count on getting great care for our fur babies at Cheat Lake Animal Hospital—especially for our two senior pups, Maxx (a cancer survivor) & Ginny. The vets are caring and compassionate and physical therapist Sara does an amazing job with our 14 year-old boy, who is gradually improving his mobility. We also appreciate the care and kindness when one of our cats recently was diagnosed with advanced CKD and subsequently passed over the rainbow bridge. Drs. McWreath, Harvey and Hart all provide the most attentive care possible! We appreciate the great care we receive and also the support staff and vet techs who are always so responsive!

Highly recommend this emergency vet!! They took such good care of my cat. I had previously taken her to another emergency vet in fairmont which was a mistake. They sent her home after keeping her over night (she hadn’t ate and was vomiting for 4 days) and told me to monitor her and if she got worse to take her in to another vet. Well she still wouldn’t eat that day so I called my normal vet and they sent me here and they were so helpful and got her taken care of quickly. They took her back for surgery almost immediately after x rays. The staff was also very understanding and caring. They fixed a problem that I feel may have been prevented had the previous vet done better. I wish I would have brought her here first. I will now bring any animal I have needing medical care here.
We have had many experiences with this veterinary over the years, with ours, friends', loved ones' pets.
We are on call to help transport cats when in dire need of help. So feral, rescue, hit by a car, and more.
Many times we've taken all of the different types there.
The amazing amount of compassion and consideration the team there gives when we've rushed in with one that needs immediate care is amazing and comforting.
They do their absolute best. I can't put it better than that. I can't give direct examples of all because most are too heart wrenching. They know when they aren't ours, but treat us as if it was, because they know it takes a lot of heart to do what we do and these pets deserve love.
Only example I'll give was a hit & run. She wasn't ours, but she could have been. She was someone's who had somehow gotten out and another found her and reached out. She was reactive and obviously pregnant. We knew she has broken bones and transported her on a board to make sure more damage wasn't done.
They rushed her into the back, triaged her, and found she had a shattered pelvis, her breathing was impaired due to severe internal damage. They had her with the O2 in the decompression area so she could breathe. They let me sit with her while they looked through everything and made calls. They were trying to find a specialist who would be willing to help her.
Unfortunately there wasn't one in the area & couldn't get there for over 24 hrs. She wouldn't make it. They let me be with her until she left us all. She was someone's, she deserved this love & compassion.
I have experienced an emergency veterinary that did not have even a fraction of this level- I know the difference, unfortunately.
We have been to them for regular, scheduled appointments as well. They give top notch care and treatment. Make regular appointments early to make sure you get them when they're supposed to be. Trying a day or week before & they'll typically be booked up. If they need immediate care and can't get appointment, the emergency care is open and will take them in, though it is a different charge.

I was panicked when my outdoor cat, Sampson, got a stick stuck in his mouth and couldn't eat or even close his mouth. My vet suggested that CLAH would be able to help him, but he'd have to be sedated. When we first walked into the hospital, we were greeted warmly by the front desk staff and the technician came and took Sampson back into the room. Not only 10 minutes later, we were called back and they had removed the stick, without sedation, from his mouth. They assured us that he didn't need any medication and his mouth suffered no damage from the lodged object. They understood how scared and upset we felt when we brought him in. They were so calming and empathetic. I truly appreciate them and would recommend them to anyone.

There are some businesses that truly leave a lasting impression, and for my wife and me, Cheat Lake Animal Hospital is one of them.
Over the years, they’ve now helped save two of our baby girls, and we will never be able to thank the doctors and staff enough for the compassion, professionalism, and exceptional care they’ve shown our family. They don’t just treat our dogs—they treat them like they’re part of their own family, and that means the world to us.
Veterinary care isn’t inexpensive, and we all know unexpected emergencies can be stressful. But when it comes to the level of treatment, expertise, communication, and genuine kindness we receive every time we walk through their doors, it’s worth every penny. Their customer service is second to none, and every member of the team goes above and beyond to make both pets and owners feel cared for.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for giving our girls the care they deserved and for giving us more precious memories with them. We are forever grateful and couldn’t recommend Cheat Lake Animal Hospital more highly. ❤️🐾
