Never left a review in my life but not happy with my experience here today. The lady at the front desk was very nice and that is my only positive! I will start off by saying that my puppy was unusually anxious which I completely understand probably made their job more difficult. With that being said, he is typically not an anxious dog which I communicated several times but they seemed to be desperate to push anxiety medication for any reason they could think of. The doctor walked in the room and almost immediately started telling us we should look into professional trainers or animal behaviorists without speaking to me about his typical behaviors, training background or temperament at all. He is 10 months old and was going to this vet for the very first time, it was also after a longer drive than he is used to. All of this was communicated to them and they basically just responded to everything by encouraging the use of medications. They also suggested using Trazadone and Gabapentin as a TRAINING AID to and I quote “lubricate the mind” so he is more “receptive” to training. Do you mean a robot? I would’ve happily told them he responds perfectly fine to treats, toys or praise and loves to train if they had asked at all before suggesting the whole drugging to train thing but shocker! They did not ask.The doctor also made some really odd comments about my dog needing training so he doesn’t try to “weaponize or manipulate” using his size because he was wiggling around? They seemed to humanize his behaviors and act as though he was being intentionally difficult which if you have any actual animal behavior training you’d think you’d know that sort of ideology is incredibly outdated and harmful. My 10 month old puppy is not trying to manipulate his way out of something by being wiggly and uncomfortable, he’s a baby having a new experience. At no point did he display aggressive or “manipulative” behaviors, he showed typical signs of anxiety which might have been helped by showing any actual interest in him outside of critiquing his behavior during a scary moment for him. I work with and interact with nearly 60 dogs on a daily basis and cannot imagine bringing such a weird and cold attitude into my workspace. I’d also like to mention that the vet never even gave us his name? All in all, my experience left me feeling super weird and uncomfortable and I would not recommend. I hope everyone else has a much more positive experience! I would suggest going into future appointments with more questions, less pill pushing and a LOT more treats and pets. Do better next time!
