This place sucks. Have had 2 appointments scheduled and they couldn't honor either one. Got the entire run around from an incompetent front desk clerk that couldn't figure it out to only be passed to someone who miraculously had an appointment in less than 30 seconds. Tried calling to then cancel the appointment and wellness plan due to their incompetence to then be hung up on after having to call multiple times getting a message saying the office is closed during regular business hours.

We have had a very wonderful experience at the Banfield Cap Hill location! All of the DVMs have been so wonderful and patient with us. Special shoutout to Susie at the front desk who has always treated us with such kindness and compassion. We recently were urgently trying to get an appointment for our kitten who was having diarrhea and she went out of her way to help us out and find us an appointment despite the busy schedules. Leia loves you, Susie!

My friend brought her dog here and had a horrible experience, the staff said nothing was wrong with how they did the routine teeth cleaning, and then the dog ended up not making it. Avoid this place at all costs if you value your pet’s life.

DO NOT BUY THE WELLNESS PLAN!!!!
I decided to subscribe because I was told the plan would save me $. It indeed made me spend more money. The staff here (Alex is who I’ve primarily worked with) will intentionally try as hard as they can to keep you on the plan for a full year or more. Once you’re on it, there’s no true way out for 24 months, trust me! They’ll give you a buyout option and quote you to pay $1,000+ to end early.
Even if you try to pre-calculate costs, they’ll find ways to increase your total during the “free office visit”
To breakdown how the program works:
The “free office visit” is truly just a consult/assessment to identify potential issues/concerns with your dog just so they can sell something to you. They’ll do things like check their heart rate, check their teeth, paws, etc and ask you questions that aim to find a problem. Then, offer you an expensive solution that isn’t included in your plan.
I told Alex that I felt that I was ‘sold’ into the program because every office visit has consisted of me spending money somehow, whether it was for a medicine that they’d recommend (which sometimes made my dog more sick, so we’d have to come back for more medicine which was more $) and/or other check-up recommendations that aren’t included in my plan. She responded back with a rude attitude & said “well it’s because everything in life isn’t free”….. uh….duh, lol?!? They’re a joke. The wellness plan is a total scam and they don’t truly care about your pets, they just want $. Money hungry.
Once you’re on the plan, you’re stuck. It’s awful. Please be more respectful and transparent w your customers!

The vet techs were kind, friendly, and compassionate, and I really appreciated their care. Unfortunately, I wasn’t satisfied with the medical care my dog received.
I brought her in because she had diarrhea and wasn’t drinking water. I was told that it didn’t seem like anything serious, but by the next day her condition had gotten worse. When I took her to another veterinarian, they said she was dehydrated and needed IV fluids. They also mentioned they wished the IV treatment had been started sooner.
Based on my experience, I wouldn’t recommend this clinic for more serious medical conditions. While the staff was welcoming and caring, I didn’t feel my dog’s illness was managed as proactively as it should have been.
Frequently Asked Questions About Banfield Pet Hospital
Does Banfield provide emergency care services?

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
What kind of appointment do I have?
• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
• Optimum Wellness Plans® Virtual Visits: If you have an Optimum Wellness Plan and scheduled a Virtual Visit, you’ll save valuable time and get quality care from the comfort of your home.
