This location is the worst experience at a Banfield I’ve ever had. My dog has been going to Banfield since a puppy, 6 years from Oregon to Washington and I’ve never felt the way I felt after moving and taking my dog to this location. Go to Lacey. Lakewood is the downfall of this chain. They don’t treat you/your dog “like their own”, every visit feels so transactional. I asked that they check something specifically and they either disregarded it or completely forgot. They’re lazy and don’t want to do their jobs, I’ve never once had to do my own fecal sample and when I asked them if they could take care of it, they again put it on me because they simply didn’t want to do it. Then when I called in yesterday requesting an urgent visit, the lady on the phone said “we’re not a hospital”, first of all, it’s literally in the name, second of all I was AT an animal hospital and they instructed that I try calling her primary care. The treatment during that time felt so dismissive and with zero care for what I was going through. They open at 7am but their phone lines aren’t. I’m considering canceling my Optimum Wellness Plan completely and finding a vet that is more client focused and treats us with more care. The visits it’s supposed to cover is not worth the treatment you get and you can barely get in when you need it. And the “emergency visit” is not worth it either because BluePearl was awful too.

They are awesome here! First off they are welcoming and on time. They instantly showed care and concern for our dog. They listened and took excellent care of our dog.

I have been with Banfield for over 20 years across multiple states and never experienced the lack of customer service that I have at this location, time and time again. The same person is always there checking you in and checking you out and she makes no eye contact, she doesn’t smile, she appears as though she hates life. This makes the whole experience uncomfortable, as if I’m an inconvenience, bringing my animals here or asking questions or needing assistance. I have always enjoyed the vet techs. They have been the biggest reason why I kept going back. I’ve had minimal encounters with the vets themselves. And often, depending on the vet I see, I receive conflicting information. Every time I’ve come to check my animals out they make me wait 30 to 40 minutes, which shows a lack of communication and efficacy in their checkout process. At this point I’m choosing to drive further to go to a different location in hopes to have a better overall experience. At this point I will never return to this location again.

They're nice but their drop off process is a mess and plans keep rising (I know that's not the fault of the office- it's a corporate issue, just be aware). I set appointments to drop my dog off and sometimes I'm waiting over half an hour in a room. Most of the time, I feel like my dog is well cared for but their times even with an appointment leaves something to be desired.

I was a Banfield client for approximately five years and entrusted them with the care of my English Bull Terrier, Thor, throughout most of his life. During that time I spent thousands of dollars on wellness plans, examinations, procedures, and routine veterinary care. After Thor passed away, I requested a simple factual statement summarizing what Banfield's records reflected regarding his veterinary history and documented temperament. I was not asking for legal opinions, speculation, or for anyone to take sides in a dispute. I was only asking whether Banfield would provide a brief summary based on the records of a patient they treated for years. I was disappointed to be told that no statement would be provided and that I should rely on the records themselves. I was also advised that none of the current veterinarians knew Thor because the doctors who treated him were no longer at the hospital, despite the fact that he was still being treated there less than a year before his passing. What made this especially difficult was realizing that after five years of entrusting Banfield with Thor's care, the relationship felt no different than if he had never been a patient there at all. When you trust a veterinary provider with your pet throughout their life, you hope that a meaningful client-patient relationship exists and that your pet is more than just a file in a computer system. Unfortunately, when I needed help understanding and clarifying his documented history after his passing, I felt like the years of care and loyalty as a client meant very little. As a long-term client, I found this response frustrating. I understand staff turnover happens, but I expected more support from a veterinary provider that had cared for my dog for so many years. While Banfield provided access to the records, I was disappointed that they were unwilling to provide even a brief factual summary of what those records reflected. My concern is not with access to records, but with the lack of willingness to assist a longtime client seeking clarification about a pet they had treated for most of his life.
