They used to be great but seemed to have gotten new ownership in the past couple of years. They only seem to have fill in doctors who are nice, but inconsistent. They rarely answer their phones and left us waiting for blood test results for over a week- which we needed for multiple specialist and ER appointments that it was too late for. Also apparently you are supposed to do blood panels when your cat turns 10- we were not told or offered that, not sure if it would have caught his heart condition, but would have been good to have

We had a an appointment scheduled to bring our cats in for an appointment only to get there and say that no doctor was available that day. Very frustrating to take a day off of work and go through the hassle of getting the cats there only to be told they can't be seen. Things like this do happen, so we rescheduled for one week later, only to have the exact same thing happen!! We did at least get a call this time to tell us that no doctor would once again be coming in, but with less than 24hrs of notice. It is beyond frustrating to schedule two different days off of work to make a trip to the vet only to be told that sorry we don't have anyone that can help you. Needless to say we will be going to a different vet, that can hopefully keep up their end of the bargain. The lady working the front desk when we went in for the first failed appointment was at least nice, but beyond that this has been an awful experience.

Des Moines Veterinary has undergone staffing and Doctor changes in 2026. The website information needs to be updated to reflect new staff and days the 1 resident Veterinary doctor is in office. Phones are not answered every week day now and getting through can be frustrating. Once we did get through, our appointment was scheduled in a very workable time frame. Dr. "Ram" was fabulous and very easy to communicate with. Pricing seemed reasonable and they still honor "Care Credit". Our Billy was pleased as well, with the care and attention given to him.

Ive been going to this veterinary hospital off and on for over 25 years to help care for a bird and two dogs. In the past they were amazing. You could get in practically any time and I needed them for several emergency type visits. Needless to say, I have spent thousands of dollars in vet bills. Since losing Doctor Onorati several years back, things have changed. Recently I needed to get my geriatric dog in for severe diarrhea issues as it seemed chronic and he’s been losing weight. I called 6 times on a Monday and could not get ahold of anyone on the phone. To make matters worse, I left two messages and they indicated they would get back to me no later than at end of business day which they never did. I also left an email to have someone respond and I got no response. I am very disappointed in the way they are running their business compared to how they did in the past. I would exercise caution if you need a vet you can rely on. I would rate them with 0 stars as I couldn’t even make an appointment.
