  I accompanied a friend to Vetco Total Care at the Petco on Upton Drive for her cat, and unfortunately we both left very disappointed with the experience. During the appointment, the vet, repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with working at this location and with having to cover there on Fridays. Regardless of the circumstances behind the scheduling, hearing these complaints multiple times during a veterinary appointment felt unprofessional and made an already stressful visit uncomfortable. More concerning was the lack of continuity and transparency in the system. The vet told us that the cat did need antibiotics, but said she was not going to prescribe them because she was only covering at this location and would not be available to follow up. If a covering veterinarian is unable or unwilling to initiate treatment that she determines is medically indicated because she cannot personally provide follow-up, that limitation should be made clear to clients before they schedule and pay for an appointment. We essentially got nothing useful out of the visit. My friend still had to take her cat to her regular veterinarian on Monday, where the cat could actually receive the antibiotics she needed. Our frustration is not simply that we didn’t get the outcome we wanted. It is that we brought a sick animal to what is presented as a full-service veterinary hospital, the veterinarian identified a need for treatment, but the structure of the coverage prevented that treatment from being provided. Had we known this beforehand, we would not have chosen this appointment. Vetco/Petco needs much better transparency about what a covering veterinarian can and cannot provide, as well as a system for continuity of care when another veterinarian is covering the location. Clients should know before the visit whether the veterinarian they are scheduled with will actually be able to treat the problem they are being seen for.

  Trent helped me get my online order corrected. He had to call to get customer service to make the right changes. Took a while but he was super patient and professional. I’ll definitely use Petco for all my dogs for now on. Thanks Trent!!!

  Everyone is always so helpful and always willing to assist! They also have a wonderful variety of things for most animals! It's a great all in one stop to shop for pets!
