We usually go to the Pembroke location because it used to be closer to my job and just continued when that changed. We had a bit of an emergency w a blockage in my mail cat and military highway was the soonest available. What a pleasure. We were greated so pleasantly. The gentleman at the desk was kind and understood our issue. He had already spoken to the Dr and they were ready for us. He kindly explained that this may be an instance where we needed to an ER visit so they were going to have us complete an in office visit instead of a drop off. How amazing to have a full office visit! Dr Gibbs was amazing and kind and took exemplary care of our cat Jasper. Who is going to be just fine BTW. I appreciate the care and compassion from everyone we worked with and will transfer to the Military location as it’s now more convenient and we know we can trust the wonderful care we will be given.

Worst customer service anywhere. I arrive on time for my appointment and am told they are in their daily huddle. Why would you schedule a meeting with no one at your desk when you have appointments arriving? Then when they finally do come to the desk, person on the phone instead of asking the call to hold for the person who has been waiting standing in front of them. What they to cover in their huddles is customer service. This is not my first bad experience. I have a large dog and person completely rude checking me out while I am handling my dog in a packed waiting area like I was honoring him with my presence. I will not go to this location ever again even though it's closest for me.

I am writing this to warn other pet owners. I brought my 5-year-old cat to Banfield after he suddenly stopped eating and showed a loss of motor control. I trusted this clinic with his life, and their severe medical incompetence and careless charting directly contributed to his rapid decline and subsequent passing.
When I brought my cat in, I specifically asked the staff to monitor his weight because he visibly looked like he was losing weight. They called me hours later to reassure me he was a healthy weight, but their records show they documented his weight as 18.9 lbs, even though his consistent baseline weight was 10.5 lbs (when the emergency vet weighed him the same day, he weight 8.2 lbs). They failed to perform even a basic physical weigh-in correctly. Furthermore, after bloodwork showed his liver values were double the normal limit, the vet insisted on administering multiple injections, including steroids and B12, and pushed me to purchase oral steroids and specialized kidney food through them, despite the issue being his liver.
Hours after returning home, my cat went into severe convulsions. I rushed him to an independent emergency veterinary hospital, where the emergency team was shocked by Banfield's treatment. They confirmed that the specific combination of shots Banfield administered actually accelerated his liver failure, causing his liver values to triple within hours of their care. He was in too much pain to save and had to be humanely euthanized the following morning, resulting in an additional $9,000 in emergency bills just trying to stabilize him.
To make matters worse, Banfield engaged in predatory billing practices during my grief. I had signed up for the Optimum Wellness Plan two weeks prior to investigate his sudden loss of interest in food. Following his death, Banfield insisted on holding me to the 12-month contract to pay out the services rendered. To be more specific, they wanted me to pay out the very services that ended his life. Even though I removed my payment methods from my online profile, Banfield must have saved my method of payment to continue charging me for four subsequent months without my authorization. When confronted, they refused to refund those four months, though they eventually waived the remaining balance of the contract "out of sympathy." They showed a complete lack of medical competency, zero accountability for a fatal charting error, and abusive financial behavior. I lost so much. I lost those 4 months of payment, I lost $9,000 in vet costs, and worst of all - I lost my sweet baby boy at 5 years old. I raised him since he was a baby. He loved me so deeply and helped me learn to live. I lost my meaning and Banfield is responsible for that. Do not trust them with your pets.

Only reason I gave them a 3 cuz most of their staff was very pleasant.
I've used them in the past and it wasn't this slow of service. It seems they must be under staffed or taking on more animal patients than they can handle.
I took my pet Roscoe there last week. We were about 15 minutes early for dropoff appointment. It took almost an hour just for the nurse to see us and get info on him. Made my husband late for work and made him get a warning.
Almost an hour to do a "dropoff" was ridiculous. So beware if you have something to do, have to go to work don't expect dropoff to be in and out. They told us had to pick him up by 5. They didn't call us to pick him up until almost 6:30. So beware don't plan anything after you drop pet off cuz they may call you to pick them up "after" they say latest pick up hour is.
They put him on antibiotics they gave me prescription to order on my own. Which was for 20 caplets. The pet pharmacies have them in 30, 60 on up.
So I had to figure out on my own how to make it work. I had to add 1 caplet 20x's to cart on Chewy. Which some other sites don't have that option.
Chewy has been waiting for Banfield to respond to prescription request since Friday and they haven't responded.
A pet would be DEAD if they had a bad infection that needed their antibiotics right away, dealing with Banfield not responding to request for the prescription THEY gave to be filled.
I've used Greenbrier Animal Hospital. I was trying to be cheap cuz they cost a bit more and driving from Norfolk to Chesapeake to save on gas. I've never had a problem with them on top of getting my pets prescriptions filled. Never had to wait an hour for my pet to be seen. This experience with Banfield has made me appreciate private vets even more. Although more costly, it's worth it cuz you get prompt services for your pet.
I am very disappointed with Banfield.

Banfield has been the worst experience I've ever had with vets. Started out with one dog who ate something that caused a blockage. They ordered xrays then claimed they couldn't read them without a specialist which would cost an additional $600. Took those says xrays to an emergency vet who read them with no issue and cured my dog in 48hrs with no surgery. During that process I was advised with my other dog that if I got her spayed to be aware since she has a larger body cavity her stomach may flip and I should get GVD surgery at the same time which would cost me and additional $8000. After months of back and forth with banfield discussing options, and ONLY AFTER I chose NOT to renew the wellness plans for both my dogs did a vet tell me that if I didn't get the spay surgery my dog would develop an infection and have to be spayed anyway. She then left the room and never came back, even though said she would be right back. No further information after I had waited an hour in the room with my dogs after they were seen. This appt after a representative called me to set up and appointment and when I asked to call them back she made appointments for me anyways. I called them the next day to set up appointments only for another representative to ultimately apologize and handle the situation. He has been the best part of that place and has given me more support and service than any vet at that location. I assumed the vets there cared about my dogs wellbeing, instead they seem to only care about the money I give them.
