I love the pet care team at Banfield Pet Hospital. They take such good care of our Angel, whenever we have to take her in.

To: Banfeild Community in Leesburg , I would like to share my horrible experience I had on Saturday , June 13th. I have two pets that I routinely take to Banfeild for checks up at least twice a month. Every time I go to Banfeild I have approximately 20 minutes wait . I completely understand that each visit is different and might take a little longer . I do wait patiently even though I have to arrange TIME OFF from work. This past Saturday due to personal reasons I was about 10 minutes late and regardless of how much I begged receptionist to honor me the appointment, unfortunately she refused and I had to go back home. I had a routine appointment and my pet had to be checked due to previous health reasons . I was very upset and extremely disappointed! I found that very unacceptable. Hope this issue can be addressed since we live in a community with so many pets and I highly recommend you to everyone. Thank you for your prompt attention.

This was a terrible experience. We brought in our ten week old puppy who was having respiratory issues. The intake was not sympathetic. The front desk was aggressively selling the wellness plan instead of asking questions about the puppy's health. We had done some research before coming in, we questioned why the quote was higher than online- to notice that "add-ons" were attached without disclosure or discussion. We waited 40 minutes past our appointment time in a hot and unclean room. I should have paid attention. The cleaning stations were empty, the rooms were dirty, no one was wiping anything down- shocking for a medical environment. Eventually were seen by the doctor, who seemed great. She prescribed antibiotics and suggested that if the puppy's condition did not improve to come back in two days for additional care; x rays, oxygen, additional meds, etc. She recommended x-rays but stated that she did not hear the rattling of pneumonia. The following day, our puppy's condition worsened. We attempted to make an appointment, we could not make one at the Leesburg location, or any of the other three locations in proximity. We called, they said to make an appointment the next day and let the antibiotics work. The next day, after a terrible night with a suffering puppy, my husband made an appointment for us to go back. When I arrived, the front desk checked us in, sent us to another dirty room. I asked the attendant for a paper towel and asked why the rooms were so dirty. She shrugged her shoulders and said, "all the animals, the nurse will be with you soon." I heard the nurse aggressively ask the front desk ask, "It's only been two days of antibiotics? Why are they in?!" It was disheartening to hear. The nurse was prompt when she came in, without introduction asked, "How did you make this appointment? We are busy today- all the doctors are in surgery." I was taken aback, I asked her if we were seeing the doctor today, and let her know that she had asked us to come back in two days. The puppy was visibly suffering and having a hard time breathing. She said that would not be possible because their system was "messed up" and was allowing scheduling when there were no doctors available. I asked if she could help us find another Banfield within driving distance that may have an emergency appointment, she stated that the plan "is not for emergencies" and that all local doctors are in surgery. I asked if there was a possibility of giving this pup oxygen, she stated that "all the tanks are used up." She exuded fake empathy, but no solutions. She offered to call another animal hospital in Leesburg for us and let them know that we were coming. I did not trust her at this point. I asked her to print our medical records and cancel our plan. While waiting, I overheard the front desk asking her "maybe we should at least do x-rays" her response: "we don't have time for that today!!" We ended up taking our puppy to Broadlands Animal Hospital in Ashburn. They immediately did x-rays, blood work, put him on an IV....incredible experience. We paid over $1000 but it was well worth it. He would not have survived if we had not taken him in. He is on two different antibiotics for pneumonia, immediately had multiple rounds of fluids. They prescribed something to calm the cough, something to stimulate his appetite, and recommended holistic approaches we can do at home: steam, warm broth, calming music, lots of rest, etc. The veterinary clinic is clean, sterile...absolutely a different experience. The doctor has called us two days in a row to follow up on the pup, and genuinely cares. We have been able to reach someone and speak to a nurse when we had questions regarding medication, and I am happy to say that our pup is slowly on the mend!

We love this Banfield location! Everyone is friendly and caring. The front desk staff is welcoming. The Vet techs are great with our pets. We have had good experiences with all the Veterinarians we have worked with, but Dr. Switer has been the one we have worked with most and we love him!

I was enrolled in Banfield's Wellness Plan without fully understanding it was a non-cancellable yearly contract — $80/month that I could not get out of regardless of my experience. During my time as a member, my dog's vaccinations were mishandled on multiple occasions: she received double doses and incorrect vaccines. This is a serious medical error that should never happen at any vet practice. Beyond the medical mistakes, my dog was visibly terrified every single visit — a sign the staff wasn't handling her with appropriate care. The final straw: when I applied to adopt a cat through a rescue organization, Banfield reported that I was not a fit pet parent. This, despite the fact that I was literally locked into a contract with them and had no choice but to continue using their services. I was paying $80/month and they used that relationship to undermine my character as a pet owner. I would strongly caution anyone against signing a Wellness Plan without reading every line of the cancellation policy. And if your pet is showing fear or stress at visits, don't ignore it — I wish I hadn't.
