Vet has a ton of appointments available for new puppy appointments, they will encourage you to join the puppy program which will allow you to pay monthly for basic puppy care. However, when you need an appointment because your dog is ill, they will not have anything available for some time and will recommend you take them to an urgent care. Today, I called needing to make an appointment as my dog is acting a little lethargic, and panting. No one answered when I called so I went online. Put in that my dog was lethargic and having breathing issues and it shows multiple available appointments for the next morning. I schedule one for an 8:15am drop off. Within minutes they call to say they can’t see her till Sunday. This is the second time I have needed assistance and can’t get it so now will need to spend the extra money to take her to an urgent vet.

I have been to many locations between VA and NC and this location is the reason I will not use Banfield any longer. My plan included a dental cleaning. Last year, vet advised without doing the service my dog didn’t need it. One can’t know that by looking at a canine’s teeth. A dental cleaning includes sedation and thorough cleaning! Also, the cleaning will inform if they have gum issues. My other dog was taken for a referral for specialist so I could take her for TPLO surgery. They didn’t have her in the back but a minute, if that long. Only to inform me, they couldn’t perform exam to give referral. I had to pay another vet (who is now my pets’ vet) to do an exam and get referral. And guess what the vet didn’t have any issues performing any exam. Spoke volumes to me, the vets located at Banfield do not want to work. One star rating is too much of a rating , too bad I can’t rate a 0.

I'll give this an extra star because the doctor was exceptionally nice, even when delivering bad news. However, getting to see or talk to an actual person at Banfield takes quite an effort. The wellness plan will save you money but just understand what you're signing up for and set your expectations accordingly. They prefer you drop off your pet at 8am and pick them up in the afternoon so they can treat numerous animals at once - like an assembly line. Around noon, you'll get a call to give you an "update" on your pet, and you can guarantee it's going to be to try to sell you something extra. It's upsell, upsell, upsell, and sometimes with high pressure urgency. I have been to 3 locations (Springfield, Fredericksburg, and Massaponax) and they are all the same. Their overall service is just as impersonal. No one answers phones. Online is a chat bot. And you can only cancel your plan by calling an 800 number and talking with someone. They didn't used to be this way. About 10 years ago I would have highly recommended Banfield, but the staff now seem overworked and just stretched far too thin. Basic supplies also seem to be limited. I had to insist on bloodwork for my pet because I was told they didn't have enough. Same for some meds. Banfield is convenient and there are multiple locations, but if I had to do it again, I'd go with a local vet at a smaller office who still cares rather than the impersonal money grab this company has become.
