Gastrointestinal illness diagnosis and treatment

Gastrointestinal illness treatment at Banfield Pet Hospital® starts with identifying the underlying cause – which can range from dietary issues to infections – and then providing appropriate therapy such as diet changes, fluid therapy, or medication.

I have scheduled three separate appointments with these folks--weeks in advance, mind you. However, on the day of each of these appointments, I get a call from them stating they either need to move the appointment time or reschedule to another day entirely because the Dr. decided to take a half-day. People take time off of work to make it to these appointments (that they pay for), so I find it perplexing that they can casually reschedule appointments last-minute consistently. At the same time, they are extremely unresponsive to picking up phone calls, as well as approving Chewy prescription medications. I think Banfield can be a great option for your pets, but it really depends on the location. I would highly advice against choosing this Fairfax (Main St.) location as your preferred Banfield.

Exceptional Care for Our Cavapoo, Russell! I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Gilman and the entire team at Banfield Pet Hospital in Fairfax! Every time we bring our Cavapoo, Russell, in for his checkups and routine care, we are blown away by the level of professionalism, genuine compassion, and attention to detail. Dr. Gilman is truly fantastic. He takes the time to thoroughly explain every aspect of Russell’s health, listens attentively to all of our questions, and treats Russell with so much gentleness and affection. It is clear that he truly loves animals and treats his patients as if they were his own. The entire support staff and veterinary technicians are equally amazing—always welcoming, efficient, and super patient with Russell during his visits. They go above and beyond to make the whole experience stress-free and comfortable for him from the moment we walk through the door. If you are looking for a skilled, compassionate veterinarian and a front-desk/clinical team that truly cares, I couldn’t recommend Dr. Gilman and the Fairfax Banfield team more highly. Thank you all for keeping Russell happy and healthy!

This clinic deleted my review, but I will write it again. If you genuinely care about your pet, do not go to this clinic, especially do not see Dr. Zoe Gilman. In April, I took my cat there for vaccinations. Nobody told me that they only allow 30 minutes per animal. Apparently, making money is more important than giving each patient individual attention. On top of that, their unprofessional nurse took 15–20 minutes from our appointment and did not understand what was written in my cat’s medical documents. She also did not like the fact that I was asking questions. Then they told me they were going to take my cat to weigh her. I said okay, and suddenly, as soon as the door closed, I realized that something was not right. I immediately went out and asked them to bring my animal back. They refused. I could hear my cat screaming and getting nervous. I kept asking them to bring her back and I refused the procedure, but they would not let me go where they had taken her. I was looking through the door into the hallway, but I could not see anything because they had put reflective film on the door. You could barely see anything unless you got very close. I saw how horribly they were treating a little dog who was also nervous. I do not know where his owners were, but they were treating him terribly. This happened on April 13th, during the first half of the day. Suddenly, someone came out and told me that I was not supposed to look in that direction. I kept asking them to return my cat, but they ignored my request. And just so you understand the situation, I was on crutches with a broken leg. Finally, two nurses came out and started arguing with me because my cat had scratched them. Another nurse, whom I had never seen in my life, was attacking me as if my cat had scratched her personally. I told them that it happened because my cat was nervous, and that it was normal. She was scared because she had never been left in the hands of strangers without me before. They mocked my cat, called her crazy and sick, called Animal Control, and mocked me by saying that they were going to take her away from me. I was crying, and they did not care. On top of everything, they scheduled another appointment for her and prescribed a sedative intended for an adult human being, two doses, so that my cat would basically be like a vegetable in their hands. But I took her to another doctor at the same day, where the doctor spent 40 minutes trying to befriend her and gain her trust, and then performed the necessary procedure. Everything went easily, without any problems and without any medication. If you value your pet’s mental health and nerves, as well as your own nerves, do not go to this clinic. And yes, as I said at the beginning, they deleted my previous review. But I will write it every single time they delete it. You cannot hide the truth from people and mistreat our animals. Banfield you don’t care about animals and their health all you care is your own pocket! Shame on you!

If you care about your animal DO NOT take them here!!! My Basset got a pretty nasty ear infection and I called this location to make an appointment for as soon as I could due to how uncomfortable my dog was. They told me come in for drop off at 8am the next day. Says they open at 8am but no key opened the doors until after 8 and when I talked to the front desk they said there was no record and they cannot take him. On top of me moving around meetings to make sure my dog is taken care of they did not seem to care.
