This was one of the worst veterinary experiences I have had with Dr. Kelly McGrath.
All other vets were awesome, but Dr McGrath I do not recommend to anyone. The veterinarian was completely unprepared for the appointment and did not take the time to review my dog's medical history, even though all records were already available through the same Banfield location.
My dog has a documented history of a previous Ehrlichia exposure and has tested positive in the past. Instead of reviewing the existing records, the veterinarian immediately pushed for additional testing, creating unnecessary concern and expense. It was obvious that my dog's history had not been reviewed before making recommendations.
The veterinarian was also rude to me and my husband, dismissive, and inattentive throughout the visit. I felt rushed whenever | tried to ask questions and did not feel that my concerns were taken seriously.
What was most disappointing was the examination of our new puppy. The exam felt extremely brief and superficial, and I left feeling that very little effort had been made to thoroughly assess him. Money was wasted during this visit. As a pet owner, I expect a veterinarian to be attentive, review available medical records, perform a proper examination, and communicate respectfully. Unfortunately, none of those expectations were met during this visit.
I have had positive experiences with other Banfield veterinarians in the past, which makes this experience even more frustrating. I will be requesting a different veterinarian for any future appointments and would not recommend this particular doctor based on the level of care and professionalism we received.

First of all, I usually do not write reviews like this, but I am writing this because it involves my beloved baby cat, and I feel very hurt and disappointed.
The veterinary receptionists the one with red tattoos, is often not very caring when speaking with customers. Today, I felt that was confirmed when I called to make an appointment, and I heard her say, “Oh no, she called again,” before realizing I was on the phone. As a regular customer who pays every month for my cat’s.
When pet parents call a veterinary office, it is usually because we are worried and trying to keep our pets safe. Our pets cannot speak for themselves, so we depend on the staff to treat us with kindness, patience, and respect. I am not a doctor, and if something is wrong with my cat, I may not know what to do. That is why I call and ask for help.
I have also noticed that this receptionist often sounds uninterested, sometimes talks while eating, and does not seem willing to help sincerely. This makes it very hard for me to trust the front desk experience at this clinic.
My request to the manager or coordinator is to please take this seriously and make sure the clinic remains a safe, caring, and respectful place for pets and their parents. Veterinary care is not just a business. It involves people’s beloved animals, and the staff should understand how emotional and important that is.
I hope this issue can be addressed so other pet parents do not feel dismissed or disrespected when they are only trying to get help for their babies.

The staff is very rude. Trixie came out with an attitude for no reason and would not help us because she decided to close 30 minutes early. Don’t work here if you aren’t able to be professional or at least have the common courtesy to be polite.

I had a drop-off appointment at 7:45 a.m. today and arrived just before then. I then spent the next 35 minutes waiting while two others who arrived at the same time as me, and even some who came after me, were called into the office within 10-15 minutes of waiting.Once I finally left and arrived late at school, I was told I would receive a call when my dog was ready for pick-up. In the morning, I was informed there was a new system being used, so I was patient. However, after 4 hours, I had not received a call. Like any concerned pet owner, I decided to call myself.I called three times because the first two times I was put on hold for 15 minutes. When I finally got through the third time, I was told they had not even started working with my dog. I remained patient and waited for a call back. Four more hours passed with no call.At around 4:30 p.m., with the office closing at 5, I called again. Whoever answered immediately put me on hold. After waiting another 15 minutes, I hung up and called again. This time, I was told I could finally pick up my dog. When I arrived, I saw “Maddy” at the front desk chatting with her coworker. I heard and saw the phone ring, and classic Maddy immediately put the phone on hold and continued her conversation.Once my dog was finally back in my possession, I asked what work had been done. Nothing. They had done nothing with my dog despite having her for 8 hours. I asked for her anal glands to be taken care of, but they said they could not do it.What was supposed to be a simple drop-off check-up appointment turned into a complete nightmare. DO NOT GO TO BANFIELD at 7690 Richmond Hwy, Alexandria, VA 22306. WORST SERVICE EVER. If I see any of them again, especially Maddy, I’ll make sure that any concerned pet owner will never have to wait on hold again.
